Hospitality business Marketing Strategy (SWOT)

I hope that this note finds you well. As we continue to dive into this notion of marketing strategy I wanted to present you with the obligatory SWOT diagram found in every marketing class. Strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities are kind of staples for every introduction to marketing class. But here is the thing.  A firm performs the analysis and never revisits it again. You might even find it proudly displayed somewhere on their website. The problem is that the diagram constantly changes.

So, with some basic assumptions: During economic stress, the first things people give up are hospitality products: dining out, travel, vacations etc…..  Hospitality was decimated in the current pandemic. Historically pandemics have taken a minimum of 2 years and typically in the 3-5 year range to fully recover. For now, everything is up in the air. There is no reason to believe anything will be the same going forward, and those who think things will be the same as they were prior to March are misguided.

So as hospitality companies recover from the pandemic, think about how they will have to adapt. Choose one area of hospitality and use the SWOT model how will each aspect change? Illustrate some of your points using a specific company. How will their strengths and weaknesses change? How will their opportunities and threats change?  Explain what you think and why (hint why is really important) explain your logic.

Your choices can be anything from a cruise line, a hotel chain, a casino (Las Vegas is getting crushed), restaurants, overseas travel and on. Think about this and enjoy.

Individual Value Assignment

Please read Friedmans Chapter Clarifying What’s Important to You (in the course packet).  Then complete the individual Values Assignment, which is a two-three page, double-spaced paper.  The paper should identify three to five values that are most important to you and explain how each of these values has influenced key decisions you have made in your life.  Additionally, describe two ethically challenging situations in which you did and did not speak out.

chapter 3 assignment koko

While ASL is indeed a full, complete language (incidentally, unrelated to English), does Kokos signing demonstrate that she was using ASL at its full extent?  What level of fluency did Koko demonstrate?  What does this indicate, if anything, about how closely related humans are to other apes?

mobile media and games

You are expected to write a critical essay that explores mobile media, discussing aspects like practices, identities, aesthetics and consumption. The essay should have a clear argument and a solid theoretical framework, and respond to one of the questions below. The following questions are quite broad and should be considered as a starting point. You need to make the question your own by further defining and narrowing down your focus!
Question 1. Mobile media have facilitated a reconfiguration of both time and space. Critically discuss how mobile media have transformed the cultural practices of work or being at home.
Question 2. In his essay on Locative Interfaces and Social MediaLinks to an external site., J Farman suggests that  mobile media have led us to re-examine the nature and status of proximity and intimacy. He continues, online social networks have been fostering a sense of place and intimacy for several decades; yet, with the advent of location-based social networks, have we become more intimate?’ (p. 58). Critically discuss using specific examples from your own personal experience and academic studies of online practices to illustrate your points.
Question 3. Mobile media are shifting our relationship to the notions of public and private. They facilitate new ways of being both attentive and inattentive, of connecting and disconnecting with others. Critically discuss using academic work and relevant examples.

Individual SJU Mens Basketball Play-by-Play Data Collection

For the 2019-20 season, go here:  https://redstormsports.com/schedule.aspx?path=mbballLinks to an external site.

To find the play-by-play data, click on “BOX SCORE” next to the game, and then click on the “PLAY-BY-PLAY” tab in the horizontal menu bar near the top of the page.

Each student will “collect” data for one assigned game from the BOX SCORE for that game and then enter that data into the provided MS Excel spreadsheet for all line-ups that played during the game.

Excel Templates:  Template for Windows MachinesPreview the document  |  Template for Mac/Apple MachinesPreview the document

NOTE:  There are two templates (FOR WINDOWS and FOR MAC). The FOR WINDOWS version was built on and for Excel on Windows-based machines, and the FOR MAC version was built on and for Excel (can also be imported into “Numbers”) on Mac/Apple machines.  In fact, both files should work on both types of computers, but every once in a while the automated number and name feature for SJU players does not properly work.  As a result, I have two versions of the same file so as to avoid any issues.  Email me if you have problems with the file on your computer.  Also, both were tested and work on Excel 365 (OneDrive).

Variables and Operational Definitions

For this Research Roundtable, you will share your variables, their relationships amongst each other, and the purpose of your operational variables.

You will receive instructor feedback from your instructor after you submit your work in Module 3 Variables and Operations Definitions.
Share & Discuss
State your Research Topic, Objective/Purpose, and Research Question(s).
List and label the variables, including independent, dependent, intervening, or moderating.
Explain the relationships among the variables.

Groups and Communities

Write 35 pages in which you critically review reliable media sources for information related to the implications of membership in a chosen group or community. Examine both scholarly literature and reliable media sources in order to identify the problems, conflicts, and issues where additional research is needed.

Today, the focus of scientific inquiry is on group dynamics, the appeal of groups, the benefits and consequences of group membership, and how groups recruit members.

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

Competency 3: Evaluate the physical and psychosocial impacts of cyberpsychology.
Examine scholarly literature for information about the psychosocial implications of participation in online groups and communities.
Examine reliable media sources for information related to the implications of membership in a group or community.
Competency 4: Evaluate the methods, procedures, and techniques useful in the conduct of empirical research within cyberpsychology.
Explain the methods or procedures described in scholarly sources.
Critically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the methodology used for the study.
Competency 5: Evaluate problems, conflicts, and unresolved issues in the study of cyberpsychology through critical thinking.
Evaluate areas of concern regarding participation in virtual groups or communities.
Recommend a specific issue requiring more research and provide a rationale.
Preparation

For this assessment, study the psychosocial effects of a specific online community or group. For example, perhaps you are interested in researching an online sobriety community for teensor an online group of people who love zombie films. The possibilities seem endless.

Choose a specific group or community to research. Note: Research judiciously. Do not choose a group or community that advocates hate, violence, or anything that might detract from the higher-education learning experience. Use caution as you research and do not reveal personal information.

Note the following:

References should be mostly scholarly in nature. In other words, you should direct your research to professional psychology journals and texts, as well as current articles from the media (for example, articles from PewResearch, professional journals, and respected media).
The library guide for this course will help you locate appropriate sources.
Wikipedia is not a reliable source of information for this purpose. Do not use Wikipedia.
Instructions

Finish each section of the APA Paper Template, linked in the Resources under the APA Resources heading, as you complete the following:

Examine scholarly literature for the psychosocial impact of membership in a virtual group or community.
Critically review reliable media sources for information related to the implications of membership in the group or community.
Explain the methods or procedures used in the studies.
Critically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the methodology used for the studies.
Examine the problems, conflicts, and unresolved issues that require additional research and choose one issue to propose for further research.
Provide a rationale for the proposed research.
Additional Requirements

Written communication: Ensure written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message.
