MDGs and a specific country

pick one of the MDGs and a specific country and prepare a short essay on how well the goal was attained during the period covered by the MDGs in the country chosen. The length of this first draft will be max. 1,500 words including tables and charts.

Thought paper

The PESTEL and Five Forces frameworks for identifying threats and opportunities in industries are key elements of strategic analysis. However, in Chapter 3 of What I Didn’t Learn in Business School, consulting engagement leaders Livia and Ken point out limitations. They note that there are few industries where the Five Forces are mostly weak. And such industries have strong barriers to entry, so there is little chance of an outsider like HGS entering them.

Given such problems, do you think the PESTEL and Five Forces frameworks are really useful to businesspeople?  Are they likely to be useful for the consultants trying to find ways to make money with Plastiwear? Why or why not?

Answer briefly in an essay of no more than 300 words (about a page and a quarter double-spaced).

First, each group member should write a draft essay. Then group members should share them.  Then after learning from each other’s essays, each should re-write his or hers.

2.    Based on this information given in the Snapshots video, write one measurable annual goal for one individual in the video, making sure that it meets the criteria reviewed above in #1 AND meets the legal requirement specified in IDEA:
(II) a statement of measurable annual goals, including academic and functional goals, designed to–
(aa) meet the child’s needs that result from the child’s disability to enable the child to be involved in and make progress in the general education curriculum; and
(bb) meet each of the child’s other educational needs that result from the child’s disability (IDEA 2004).

3.    Fill in the blank table below to develop your goal. An example is provided.

IKEA Analysis

In synchronous discussion, we examined the IKEA case and concluded that by 1980 IKEA was in a very strong position in Europe.

In this exercise, you will consider IKEAs competitive position today in the U.S. For the exercise, download the attached Analysis Worksheet for IKEA to your personal computer or tablet.

First, each individual in the group should fill in the worksheet based on what you know of IKEA from the case, class discussion, and other sources. This is your FIRST DRAFT set of answers.

Second, meet with the others in your group (presumably using Zoom). Before or during the meeting, exchange your rough draft worksheets. Discuss what each of you knows about the history, strengths, and weaknesses of IKEA, about the threats and opportunities it faces, and IKEA’s strategies. If you feel you do not understand IKEA well enough, feel free to After discussing each of these at least briefly, discuss whether you think IKEA is today in a strong competitive position. Discuss what IKEA’s leaders should do.  If you feel you do not understand IKEA well enough, feel free to talk to others who have shopped at IKEA. The video in Module 2 may also be helpful.

After the discussion, each student should fill out the worksheet again (or edit your existing sheet on a word processor).  Submit the new or edited worksheet on Canvas.
