Art Orientation

Chapters 6, 7, and 8 each end with a short section entitled “Contemporary Approaches.” These sections explore how artists are incorporating drawing, painting, and printmaking techniques into their artistic practices today.

To continue our exploration of this topic, research and share 1 of the present-day artists described in the assigned readings. More specifically, your chosen artist must be from the Contemporary Approaches section located at the very end of chapters 6, 7, or 8 in the 12th edition of Artforms. If you are using Revel, these are section 6.5, 7.8, and 8.6 in the digital textbook. The textbook includes many wonderful contemporary artists from all over the world, so enjoy the research process this week!

Consumer of research

Yoder and colleagues (2014) findings revealed that nurses recognized the importance of applying evidence to practice, however they reported that they needed help in finding the evidence. Results demonstrated that these nurses did not view themselves as active consumers of research. Instead, they looked to unit-based educators or clinical nurse specialists to find, read, analyze, and synthesize the evidence for them.  In your practice setting are you an active consumer of research, if so how is this supported in your organization?  If not, who helps you to understand the components of EBP and engage in research utilization and EBP implementation?  Be sure to provide citations and references in APA format.

POSt 1

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease caused by the ingestion of gluten. Classically, it presents with diarrhea and failure to thrive within the first couple of years of life. Diagnosis is based on abnormalities of small intestinal biopsy. However, screening for celiac disease can be initially performed using serologic markers with very high sensitivity and specificity for disease such as IgA antibodies to tissue transglutaminase (TG). With the advent of rapid screening methods and increased awareness of celiac disease, an increasing number of individuals who are otherwise asymptomatic (or have subclinical symptoms) are being diagnosed. The clinical manifestations of celiac disease that have been identified are extensive and varied and are no longer isolated to the gastrointestinal tract. Celiac disease has been associated with many other autoimmune conditions including autoimmune thyroid disease and type 1 diabetes (Barker& Liu,2008).

The classic presentation with failure to thrive, malnutrition, diarrhea, abdominal pain and distension within the first couple of years of life represents the tip of what is commonly referred to as the celiac disease iceberg (Barker& Liu,2008).

In contrast to the dramatic presentation noted typically in younger children, many patients with celiac disease present at a later age with subtle symptoms and the diagnosis of celiac disease may be delayed. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include abdominal pain, diarrhea or constipation, bloating, and excessive gas. Avoidance of foods containing gluten may also occur and a careful diet history is necessary to identify this symptom. Vitamin deficiencies due to fat malabsorption can also occur. With longer-standing disease, patients may present with profound vitamin D deficiency resulting in rickets or hypocalcemia and tetany or coagulopathy secondary to vitamin K deficiency. Anemia secondary to iron and/or folate deficiency is also observed (Barker& Liu,2008).

Patient education: Patients can’t tolerate gluten and they can control the disease by taking gluten out of the diet. A dietitian can tell them how to follow a gluten-free diet, and many cookbooks have gluten-free recipes. Most foods made from grains contain gluten. (American Family Physician, 2015). Patients should avoid the following foods unless they’re labeled as gluten-free or made with corn, rice, soy, or other gluten-free grain: Breads, cereals, pasta, cookies, cakes, gravies and sauces (American Family Physician, 2015).

Docusate
Docusate is a stool softener utilized to remedy or prevent occasional constipation and diminish pain or rectal damage created by hard stools or straining during bowel movements. Docusate use is primarily for the prevention of constipation by promoting the incorporation of water into the stool, resulting in softer fecal mass. It may also promote electrolyte in water secretion into the colon, thereby softening the stool (Wells, Schwinghammer, DiPiro, et al., 2017). According to Vallerand, Sanoski, & Deglin (2017), small amounts of this medication “may be absorbed from the small intestine after oral administration absorption from the rectum is unknown (Vallerand, Sanoski, & Deglin, 2017).” Docusate is for short term use only and may take up to one to three days to work. Long-term use of the medication may result in electrolyte imbalance and dependency.

Monitoring

One should monitor the patient for hypersensitivity, severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, especially when associated with fever or any sign of an acute abdominal event. Additionally, one must assess sudden changes in bowel habits over the preceding weeks. Also, avoid administering docusate within two hours of other laxatives, especially mineral oil, because of the potential for mineral oil absorption.

Side Effects/ Adverse Reactions

Stomach pain, diarrhea, or cramping may occur. Irritated throat (with liquid or syrup forms) may also occur. A serious allergic reaction to docusate is unlikely, but one should contact their care provider or seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. However, if symptoms of an allergic reaction (hypersensitivity) that may occur include rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, and trouble breathing. Moreover, one should decrease their dose or stop taking this medication if diarrhea occurs.

Interactions

There are no significant interactions noted in this medication’s use, and it is generally considered safe in pregnancy.

2.    Kevin knew that it was likely his corporation was going to ask him to go abroad and manage the new chemical factory they were building. He was excited about the prospects but also apprehensive. He had never traveled before and, as far as he was concerned, there was only one way to do anything, his way, which was also the American way. He decided some research was in order to at least get an idea about other countries. In his reading, he learned that some cultures place a high priority on a loose social framework where they feel primarily responsible for themselves and their immediate family. He also learned that in some societies, employees show a great deal of respect for those in authority, and titles and rank carry much weight. Some countries have little job mobility and practice lifetime employment; they also prefer very structured situations and/or activities. He also learned that some countries are characterized by assertiveness and materialism. Now he wondered if there was any framework to help him organize his thoughts.

Based on your readings on Chapter 4 &5  Role of Culture in Managing in a Global environment,

1.    Kevin could be said to have which view/attitude/approach _________________

POST

Chron disease (CD) is categorized as an inflammatory disorder of the gastrointestinal system (McCance & Huether, 2018). It can cause what is known as skip lesions or inflammatory spots mixed with noninflamed spots anywhere from the mouth to the anus (McCance & Huether, 2018). The inflamed lesions develop within intestinal submucosa, with the ascending and transverse colon being the most common sites (McCance & Huether, 2018). When the disease progresses, neutrophil infiltration occurs and can cause abscess formation and destruction of crypts (McCance & Huether, 2018). Fissures then develop resulting in inflammation of lymphoid tissue (McCance & Huether, 2018). Lesions have a cobble stone appearance with surrounding ulceration (McCance & Huether, 2018). There is then potential for fistula development in addition to strictures that increases the risk of obstruction (McCance & Huether, 2018).

It is important to educate patients on risk factors and identification of CD. Nonmodifiable risk factors of CD include family history, age (with diagnosis typically prior to age 40), being female, or being of Jewish ethnicity (McCance & Huether, 2018). A modifiable risk factor that causes CD is smoking (McCance & Huether, 2018). It is important to educate patients on the relationship between smoking and prevalence of CD, in addition to the increased potential to exacerbate CD if smoking with a confirmed diagnosed (Smoking and IBD, 2020). Smoking is a risk factor for developing CD due to the ability for cigarette smoke to alter gut bacteria leading to the development of CD (Smoking and IBD, 2020). Smoking with a CD diagnosis can cause fistulas, increase need for surgery, alter their immunosuppressant treatment, and leave themselves at risk for developing other disorders (Smoking and IBD, 2020). Diet is also an important factor when managing CD (Morton, Pedley, Stewart, & Coad, 2020). Foods identified to exacerbate symptoms include various fruit and vegetables, dairy, gluten, and foods that are considered to be high in fat (Morton et al., 2020). Having patients adhere to strict diets to prevent symptom exacerbation is imperative to achieving optimal quality of life.

For this assignment you are asked to complete a literature review on a topic/research question of your choice.

PSYC-2500: Literature Review Assignment
As you have previously learned, a literature review is summary of the research that has previously been completed on a specific topic. A literature review provides a thematic summary of the research and your papers should be organized by subtopics and not by article please do not summarize each article in individual paragraphs. Since each article has a literature review (the introduction), youll have several examples by which to organize your paper.

The purpose of a literature review is to gather and summarize the important knowledge and ideas that have already been established in the scientific community about a topic. The literature review is the first place that researchers start to explore their research question and to learn what has previously been studied. By understanding what has already been researched, a researcher can also hone their own research question and topic as well as get ideas about how to conduct their own research study.

The main objectives for this paper are to:
1.) Identify and formulate an inquiry question
2.) Read, analyze & interpret journal articles
3.) Apply the summary skills and research skills that youve already learned in this course 4.) Synthesize the knowledge about the topic of your choice in a written literature review. 5.) Practice APA citation style format

Assignment Description:
For this assignment you are asked to complete a literature review on a topic/research question of your choice (please see Angelas video on Choosing a Research Topic & Developing a Research Question. You are asked to locate at least 4 psychology journal articles on your topic and write a literature review on the articles you’ve selected.

Steps to complete your literature review:
1.) Watch Angelas video Choosing a Research Topic & Developing a Research Question.
2.) Identify and refine a topic in the field of psychology if you need help, ask Angela
3.) Locate at least 4 journal articles from the KSU library related to your topic/question.
4.) Ask the Librarian in our weekly module if you have questions or have difficulty finding articles
related to your topic.
5.) Read the articles youve selected thoroughly and take notes on major themes and findings
6.) Create an outline for your literature review by theme/topic
7.) Write your literature review and include APA formatted citations (at least 4 different citations to
4 different articles must appear).
8.) Provide a Reference page for all of the articles you cited
9.) Read your literature review for coherence, clarity, scientific language and revise as needed.
10.) Edit your final draft and submit your paper in D2L in particular, check for writing style,
succinctness, and APA formatting

Outline for writing the literature review:
1. Introduction
The introduction is used to establish the context of your review to the reader.
a. Define the topic of your study and provide any background information that helps
your reader to understand the topic. Do not use first-person narrative in your
introduction do not use I or refer to our class.
b. Explain your reason (perspective) for reviewing the literature on this topic.
c. State your inquiry question.

2. Body
This section of your paper begins with an explanation of how you have organized your literature review and describes findings from articles that provide answers to your inquiry question.
Before you begin this section, be sure that you have sorted your articles into different themes based on the articles’ findings (Note: you may have multiple articles for one theme). After reading and sorting the articles, it is important to think of a thematic name of your sorted articles. The themes will become your subtopics for each of the paragraphs that you write in the body of your review.

To write the body of the literature review, include the following:
a.) Write an introduction paragraph for the body of your review. This
paragraph tells the reader specific information on how many articles you reviewed and how you sorted the articles into common themes based on the findings (results).
b.) This will be a paragraph that describes the first theme that you identified and compare, contrast and/or connect the articles you’ve selected.
c.) This will be a paragraph that describes the second theme that you identified and compare, contrast and/or connect the articles you’ve selected.
d.) This will be a paragraph that describes the third theme that you identified and compare, contrast and/or connect the articles you’ve selected.

3. Summary
In this paragraph, it is important to summarize the main findings from the articles that you reviewed and to point out the information that you found particularly important to know that answered the inquiry question that you established in the first paragraph of your review. Try to conclude your paper by connecting your inquiry question back to the research youve conducted.

4. References
This is the last page of your review and should be titled References that is centered. It serves as a listing of all references that you mentioned in your paper. Please use APA format when compiling this list.

PLEASE NOTICE ** there is no word count for this assignment so if you need less or more feel free to do so.
