SW Discussion

QUESTION 1:  Read pages 161-166 of your text that discusses “cultures, periods, & phases” then view the 3 PPTs in this module (Mimbres, Hohokam, AP-Mog-Gone).  Using this information what kinds of things can you infer using assemblages, periods, or phases when talking about these three groups? (AP=Ancestral Pueblo, formally known as Anasazi; Mog=Mogollon; Mimbres is part of Mogollon.)  Can you find similarities between some of them? What makes them different from each other?
Use specific examples from your book & the PPTs to post–try to use vocabulary from the chapter where appropriate (assemblages, archaeological culture, phase, etc.)

QUESTION 2: After reading Chapter 7 you will learn about types and attributes.  Using what you have learned “type” ONE of the three photos below.  Discuss (& define) which method you used and how you would group the items based on that method.  (explain your answer)

Any topic (writer’s choice)

Earned Value Management (EVM) is a classic method of measuring project status by upper management.  Some people swear by it and others swear at it.  Do you think a Project Managers bonus, if not job, should depend on what the EVM numbers are at the end of the project?  Why or why not?  As a final reflection, what is the value of using EVM in the Capstone based on the detail workplan you have created?  What are your concerns?

Fast food franchises

Write a classification essay in which you break a broad or complex topic into categories according to some logical organizing principle. Be sure to show the special features of each category and also, where appropriate, how the features of each group vary among the categories. Use the tips on the preceding pages and the student model later in this chapter on pages 245 (Links to an external site.)247 (Links to an external site.) as guides. The following list of subjects may offer you some ideas for a topic for your classification paper. Notice how some subjects can easily be limited further than they are: summer jobs could be limited to summer jobs at resorts, outstanding teachers to outstanding physical education teachers, and so on.

*Must contain three references and two in-text citations

Please refer to instructions

Each student is asked to post questions or short comments for discussion on our discussion group on Canvas by midnight before the relevant class. These can be questions of clarification or critical comments. The postings are not designed to test you, but rather, to enable you to organize your thoughts and prompt some critical reflection on each reading.  Please use your name as the title for your posting.

Nintendo

Please answer the following questions about the study:

How did Sony and Microsoft change the dynamics of the video game industry to
Nintendos detriment? How was Nintendo able to create a discontinuity in this industry through the Wii and benefit from its innovation? What lessons can be learnt from this case about effective approaches to develop and commercialize a technology-based product? Use relevant insights from articles and lectures covered to date (particularly the more recent ones) to develop your arguments.

Any topic (writer’s choice)

Hills Like White Elephants” by Ernest Hemingway.

Identify the thesis of the article.
Describe the supporting evidence presented in the article.
Include a 1-2 sentence personal response to the article and/or an evaluation of it. (Do you think the author’s interpretation is accurate, etc.)
You entry should be at least 150 words long and written in the form of a complete paragraph or two. Include in-text citations as needed. Be sure to use the text box provided to submit your journal entry. Do not attach any files

Reflection Essay

For week 3 you have an option between a Reflection Essay or a Memoir Essay. To prepare for the genres, read the  relevant sections of the  NFG (pp 256ff for the Reflection; and pp. 224ff for the Memoir). Students of traditional college age might find the Reflection to be a more manageable essay; but don’t shy away from the memoir  if you have a good idea for it. You might also find it helpful to read the sample essays of each type in the text.

One of the Week 3 learning focuses is on introductions and conclusions.  So after reading the NFG chapter on those two structural parts of an essay (and the instructor lecturette), incorporate into your Reflection or Memoir one of the standard ways of entering and exiting an essay. (In subsequent assignments, you will be asked to attempt other intro-conclusion styles).

The assignment is to be submitted as a Word document or the equivalent. Observe the standard MLA format of double-spacing, 1 inch margins, and 12 point Arial, Times New Roman, or Verdana font.

If you have general questions, post them to the  Q&A Forum. If you have questions specific to your own essay, you may send me an email.

The assignment should be around 750-1000 words and is worth 20 points. It is due by 11/8/20, 11:59 PM.

Applying Psychology to a Current Event

We’ve had quite the year in 2020: a global pandemic, a presidential election, racial protests, and more.In this assignment, you’ll discuss a current event from a psychological perspective. You may choose one of the events I mentioned above, or come up with one of your own. Make sure the event took place sometime in 2020 and that it lends itself to psychological analysis.

Applying Course Material

Apply three topics from this course to your analysis. You can be flexible in how you do so, but please avoid choosing all three topics from the same chapter. See uploaded files for OpenStax topics.

1.Begin with an introduction, giving me a very brief overview of your current event (a few sentences at most).

2. Apply one topic from this course to your discussion.  How does that psychological principle apply to the current event?  Please be specific as you provide examples.

3. Apply two more topics from this course, following the same procedure that you used in Step 3.

4. Conclude with a brief reflection.Do you understand the event any differently after viewing it through a psychological lens? How so?
