Professor MacDonald is considering taking a job with a major media news outlet. However, his training as a sociologist has him concerned that media is a powerful social force in our society. In order to prepare, he consults a current news story and approaches it from the classical sociological perspectives (functionalism, conflict, and symbolic interactionism). Recall these from Chapter 1.

Your assignment is to find a current story in the news and use your theories to approach it. Please link the story in your post. This can be from any major news outlet, NPR, Associated Press, CNN, Fox News, etc. What would each theory/perspective have to say about how the media in society is viewed or constructed in general as well as specifically applying to your news story? In your answer, define the theoretical perspective as well as show how that perspective would view any or all aspects of the media. Remember to ask yourself your question for each theory–then answer them. You learned your theories in Chapter 1. Please consult them as needed.

Good bad and loving

Write a 45 page paper applying theories and concepts from social psychology, behavioral ethics, and critical thinking to the case study you choose. Focus on theories related to prosocial behavior, rejection, and close relationships.

Prosocial behavior is doing what’s best for others and involves being fair, respectful, cooperative, forgiving, and sometimes obedient and conforming. It enables us to get along with others, to build trust, and to learn to like and love others. Antisocial behavior is behavior that either damages interpersonal relationships or is culturally undesirable, and it can even involve aggressive or criminal behavior. Social psychologists study what drives us to act in both of these ways.

Social psychologists also study our need for social acceptance and how we form relationships. Human beings are wired for relationships. We engage in relationships of all kinds, from family to acquaintances and friends to romantic partners. We all have a need to belong.

For this assessment, you will write a paper in which you apply theories and concepts from social psychology related to prosocial behavior, rejection, and close relationships. You will also be required to apply behavioral ethics and critical thinking concepts. Successful practitioners understand the dynamics of various relationships. Their understanding of that which affects a successful relationship enables them to support positive and loving relationships for their clients.

Professional Dispositions

There will be a question and there will be two answers from my classmates. Please respond to both of their answers. Split the amount of words between the two.

QUESTION: Review the summative student teaching evaluation (Clinical Practice Evaluation 4) located on the Student Success Center. Using the evaluation, assess your current performance on each component of the evaluation (Professional Dispositions, InTASC standards, and Specialized Professional Association (SPA) standards). Reflect on your areas of strength. What evidence is there to demonstrate your competence in these areas? Share how you plan to strengthen the areas of opportunity.

CLASSMATE #1/H: Clinical Evaluation 4 shows me what is expected for the student teaching practicum. Most of the areas beinging evaluated comes naturally. This helps know exactly what I need to prepare for. I hope that I will be able to be proficient enough in professional disposition, TASC standards, and SPA Standards.

My strengths are honesty, fairness, professional conduct, and advocacy. These students that I am working with are mostly freshman. I am learning them and they are learning me. There impression of me is very important.  Good impressions are foundations for building trust and relationships with students. There are lots of different learning levels within the classroom, making sure that all my students needs are met is important. There are lots of different cultures and backgrounds within the classrooms. We are a very high proverty school district . Education is very important for  my students. I have had great success with meeting student where they are no matter what.

I have some improving to do in some areas and with the help of my mentor teacher I should be be able to reach my goals.

CLASSMATE #2/M: For “Professional Dispositions” I assessed a distinguished grade of between 93 to 100. To justify this, I think that I consistently show high expectations to my mentor and have done well teaching in front of her. Moreover, I show a marked respect for diversity and try to be as fair as possible when grading and assessing formatively. Also, I have shown substantial dedication and professional conduct, while doing very well reflecting on my experiences in the classroom.

For InTASC standards, I determined that my grade should be 80-92 or proficient. I am proud of this because as a student teacher I am meeting the requirements necessary while still having room for continued growth. With application of content, learning differences, and assessment, I am still learning my trade; that is to say, still trying to understand what the best practices are for my students. Elsewhere, with the other aspects (such as content knowledge) I do better. My mentor has stated this.

For SPA standards, in my case for science, I again assessed that a distinguished grade. This is due to the fact that I have good knowledge of the subject matter and have passed the Praxis exams needed to teach science. Further, my mentor as stated that I have a really good knowledge base and have created some very good lab lessons for implementing science standards.

blog

(The article is attached)
In one of the readings from this week, Briody, Meerwarth Pester and Trotter (2012) discussed how organizational culture was described through stories and an evaluation of the situation occurred after the story was told. For this blog, describe your organizational culture by telling a story that exemplifies your corporate culture (or if you do not currently work for an organization, a past company or one you research). For example, a technology firm in Colorado holds their meetings at different diners and invites family members because family is important to them. If you were giving a talk to a broader audience at your organization, how can the story you shared drive home the corporate culture that exists in your organization?
