Discussion: Economic Impact of Oligopolies

The United States has a variety of regulations to address the economic harm resulting from monopoly power in an industry. This includes the Sherman Act of 1890, the Clayton Act of 1914, and the Federal Trade Commission Act of 1914. These acts were aimed at restricting the formation of cartels and monopolies to protect consumers and ensure competition. The article The Oligopoly Problem argued that oligopolies fall through the cracks of these regulations and leave consumers unprotected from harmful business practices where industries are highly concentrated. Read the article and respond to the following in your initial post:

    What are examples of firms in an oligopolistic market that abuse their power? Explain how they abuse their power and describe the impact on consumers.
    Do you agree with the author’s feelings about increased government oversight of such industries? Why or why not?

Unemployment rates among young college graduates

In this assignment, you need to analyze unemployment-related issues. You need to analyze only one issue (topic).

Introduction

Include the following in your introduction.

-A clear definition of unemployment and how and why it rises and declines in the economy

-This section needs to contain the following discussions based on the data that was gathered and your understanding of unemployment and GDP.
-Unemployment Rates: Discuss the trends of unemployment rates over the past 10 years and provide your objective analysis of the changes in unemployment and the current rates. -Place extra emphasis on the periods where unemployment was either too high or too low (higher or lower than the natural rate of unemployment).
-Issues (your choice): Discuss the unemployment-related issue.
-Provide an overview of the trends and use facts to highlight the major changes in the trends and the current status. State the reasons why you believe the issue you are analyzing represents a challenge for the economy.

Conclusion and Solution
-This section needs to cover the following areas.
-Highlight the causes of the issue that you selected and how it impacts the economy negatively and why it needs to be addressed by policy makers.
-State your own solution. Basically, answer the following question.
What would you do to solve the issue you addressed if you were in charge of the U.S. economy? State why.

Current Events Report, Macroeconomics

This is a current events report for my macroeconomics class. It is too hard or that much there are 4 sections to choose from. Anyone can be picked, I have no preference. I will be attaching the instructions and template that needs to be used. All that needs to be done is pick a section from the template and with in the sections on the template and answer the questions within that section and add a graph if needed for that section. Also the report needs to be covered through that dates August 17th- October 3rd. I have attached a sample of the report and rubric.

Monthly Employment/Jobs Report and Analysis

On the first Friday of each month the US Department of Labor publishes the employment/Jobs report. The report gives a broad picture and statistical analysis of the national employment situation during the preceding month. For example, the next report will be published on the first Friday of September 2020 and will explain the labor market conditions nationally and in various regions during the month of august 2020.
Your assignment consists of the following: 1. access the month jobs report when it is published from the department of labor website on any media source.  2. Review the report carefully to develop a good under of the US labor market. 3. Review the different component of the report and focus on the evidence of employment and unemployment across different regions, different states, and among different demographics particularly among different ethnic groups. 4. Give a 4 page paper report, develop a comparative analysis of the distribution and effects of employment and unemployment. – at the national level, across US regions and states, across different industries, across different age groups, across different racial tunic groups.
