Dead Aid(book name) – Dambisa Moyo(book author)

A full book review may concern only one book. Its length is about 1500-2000 words. It should give readers an engaging, informative, and critical discussion of the work. The review should follow the Guidelines below.

The review should consider (please use as your outline):

The intended audience for the book and who would find it useful
    The background of the author(s)
The main ideas and major objectives of the book and how effectively these are accomplished
The context or impetus for the book – – political controversy, implications of the book for research, policy, practice, or theory
A comparison with other works on this subject
Constructive comments about the strength and weaknesses of the book

    Your first and last name
    Your student id
Author(s) or editor(s) first and last name(s) (please indicate if it is an edited book)
    Title of book
    Year of publication
    Place of publication
    Publisher
    Number of pages
Price (please indicate paperback or hard cover) if available
    ISBN

Your book report must be on a book, it cannot be on an article, report, etc. And of course, this book must be related to this course.
You MUST include a work cited page at the end of your report. Note that although this isn’t in the requirements listed on the syllabus, it is mandatory. Since you will have to compare your book to other works and books, you must cite all of the resources you have used. Failure to do so will result in a 20 point grade deduction.

From Where do we get the savings to fund investment?

Discussion: From Where do we get the savings to fund investment?

This chart from the Federal Reserve in St. Louis
(Links to an external site.)
shows the US Personal Saving rate since 1960. It has been pretty volatile, between about 2.5 and 15%.
Here is the National Saving rate trend
(Links to an external site.)
, which is personal plus the federal budget balance (which in the US has been mostly negative since the mid-70s). Since 1960 it has mostly ranged between 2 and 12%, but was negative during the Great Depression & the Great Recession.
Here is a trend chart of US Gross and Net Private Domestic Investment
(Links to an external site.)
(Gross Domestic Investment equals “I” in GDP), which has been between 10 & 16% since 1960.
The difference between “I” and the sum of the previous two numbers (by definition) comes from an influx of foreign saving into the United States. This inflow is and must be exactly equal to the US trade deficit — that is where our foreign investment comes from. Here is that trend for the US in a document from the International Monetary Fund
(Links to an external site.)
.
So… Is it OK that a lot of US private investment is funded by foreign governments? How would we change it so that US citizens fund more US investment? (hints: a strong US economy and/or a strong US dollar makes the deficit BIGGER, not smaller, and larger government deficits make the trade deficit LARGER) Use external sources.

Unemployment by Industry

Discussion: Unemployment by Industry

Some industries have higher unemployment or higher unemployment rates than others. Here is a table from the Bureau of Labor Statistics BLS) giving unemployment numbers and rates
(Links to an external site.)
by various industries.
In which industry are you interested in finding employment? (If you don’t know, pick one anyway) Is the rate of unemployment in that industry in the most recent period higher or lower than the national average? Does seeing this information make you more or less interested in employment in that industry?
Here is another table from the BLS showing increases in the industries with the most projected job growth
(Links to an external site.)
over the next ten years. Does that influence your career choice? What or why not? in three paragraphs. Please cite at least one academic-level outside source..
