For this assignment you are going to focus on a gun violence problem (e.g., accidental shootings of children, suicide by middle-aged men, homicide involving young black men, mass shootings triggered by mental illness, etc.) of your choosing. I would encourage you to select an issue of interest and/or something that can be measured or quantified, at least in part, using the materials from class on 4/1. You will then use the article you read for last class (Santaella-Tenorio et. al., 2016) and/or the following Rand Corporation reports to select a policy response that you believe is best suited to address that gun violence problem.

In your discussion post, please respond to the following questions.

1. Describe the gun violence problem that you have selected. Why is this issue of interest or why is it deserving of a policy response? What do we know about the nature or causes of this specific gun violence problem?

2. In your view, what policy response(s) hold the most promise for addressing this gun violence problem? What specific research did you identify from the reading assignment or Rand reports that would support this policy option?

3. What challenges or obstacles might stand in the way of the development and effective implementation of this policy or policies?

For the Unit VIII Assignment, you will prepare a What NOT to Do When Testifying list. Take notes on what a professional law enforcement officer (PLEO) should NOT do when testifying or preparing to testify in a criminal case and why. Your list should contain a minimum of 21 items that a PLEO should not do.

The first item on your list will be that the PLEO should NEVER commit perjury while testifying. Perjury is knowingly telling a lie under oath about something that is important to the case.

Prepare a document with the title: What NOT to Do When Testifying. Item #1 has been provided for you. You need to list 20 more. After each item, provide a brief statement with your rationale for including the item. Use a format similar to the one shown below:

What NOT to Do When Testifying
You should NEVER commit perjury while testifying. Perjury is knowingly telling a lie under oath about something that is important to the case.

If a PLEO commits perjury while testifying, the officer may lose his or her job, he or she may face imprisonment and a fine, the defendant may be acquitted, and it reflects negatively on the professionalism and integrity of law enforcement.

[Continue with the next item.]
Use the following checklist to ensure that you have addressed all of the requirements for this assignment. The checklist will also be used by your instructor to evaluate your submission.

The list contains 21 items.

Each item is followed by a brief statement giving the rationale for the item.

Your document follows the format provided in the example.

Your document is reflective of the written communication skills required of a college student in that it is accurate, concise, and professional in appearance with proper spelling and grammar.

NOTE: The goal is to create an understandable, easy-to-follow list of behaviors and actions to avoid, while testifying to maintain the professional image of you and your organization, as well as the integrity of law enforcement.

Your list should be at least two pages. Be sure to cite, in APA format, any source used to influence your response. Therefore, as you are required to apply the concepts discussed in the textbook to the scenario.

For Unit VII, you will create a procedure for collecting and preparing evidence for admissibility in court. While a policy describes a principle or rule to guide decisions that should result in some desired outcome (describes what and why), a procedure outlines the steps to achieve the desired outcome (describes what, how, where, and when).
From the two assignments offered, select the one that you find the most interesting. For each activity, a PDF document containing an outline for how to create the procedure has been provided. A checklist that will be used to evaluate your submission is located at the bottom of the document. The information you need to fill in the outline can be located in the textbook chapters.

Assignment A relates to Chapter 13, which offers detailed information to ensure that physical evidence collected at a crime scene will be admissible in court. In court, the collecting officer must be able to identify the evidence and verify that it is in the same, or substantially the same, condition as when it was collected. This process can only be accomplished if the proper chain of custody is maintained.

Assignment B relates to Chapter 14, which focuses on photographic evidence and the factors that need to be addressed in order for this evidence to be admissible in court. In photographing a crime scene, a key consideration is that the photos, as well as videos, should be a fair and accurate depiction of the crime scene.

Assignment A: Using the outline provided, you will create a procedure for maintaining the chain of custody for physical evidence to present in a criminal case. If you wish, the procedure may describe how to handle a specific type of physical evidence, such as a blood sample, a shell casing, a weapon, etc. Click here to access the PDF Assignment A outline.

Assignment B: Using the outline provided, you will create a procedure for photographing a crime scene that would promote the admissibility of the photographs in court. If you wish, you may make the procedure specific to either still photographs or video. Click here to access the PDF Assignment B outline.

NOTE: The goal is to create a workable and understandable procedure that will guide the officer in collecting and preserving evidence that will be admissible in court.
Your entire case study should be at least three pages. Be sure to cite, in APA format, any source used to influence your response. Therefore, your reference list should include a citation of the textbook as you are required to apply the concepts discussed in the textbook to the scenario.

New Jersey Paid Family Leave Law

Instructions: Please read below. This assignment is for an EMPLOYMENT LAW course. This assignment is for a forum post. It is more of a response according to your thoughts & beliefs. Please answer the questions below accordingly.  * There is no need for wprks citied.

Governor Phil Murphy is the governor of NJ. This forum is based on New Jersey.

Since his inauguration, Governor Phil Murphy signed several pieces of social legislation into law . For example, Governor Murphy signed the New Jersey Earned Sick Leave Law which requires employers in this State to provide 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked up to a total of 40 hours.  The law took effect October 29, 2018.  The law requires employers to allow workers to take earned sick leave for their own illness, to attend a school-related event for their children, for their own illness, to care for other family members when they are ill and even to recover from or to deal with domestic violence situations. .https://nj.gov/labor/wagehour/lawregs/wage_and_hour_laws.html (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

Additionally, the Governor signed an extension of the New Jersey Paid Family Leave Law.  The law extended the time a worker may receive paid family leave from 6 weeks at about $630 per week to 12 weeks at up to 85%  of the worker’s salary up to $862 per week. Only workers contribute to the fund established for the purpose of paid family leave. The workers’ contributions will increase slightly to .012 percent of salary on income up to $124000.00.  Employers with 30 or fewer workers are exempt from the law’s requirements.

For our second Forum please discuss whether you believe the government should require employers to offer their workers paid sick leave. If so, why?  If not, why not?  Notice that the Earned Sick Leave Law does not exempt smaller businesses such as in the Paid Family Leave Law.  Should small businesses be exempt from the Earned Sick Leave law?  Why or why not?  Please consider the same questions for the Paid Family Leave Law.  Should the government require employers to allow workers to take time off for the care of a sick family member?  Should the government require, for this program, a payroll deduction from workers? If so, why?  If not, why not. Should either law apply to employers with fewer than 30 workers?  If so, why?  If not, why not?

classifying the UK constitution, the constitution of the USA and the Saudi constitution

Define the different types of constitutions.
Your textbook uses 6 criteria by which to classify constitutions. These can be found in chapter one under the heading: classification of constitutions. In addition to this, you are to consider the role of a bill of rights as an additional means to classify a constitution.

Write a five-page essay classifying the UK constitution, the constitution of the USA and the Saudi constitution.

This essay will broadly be divided into three parts. The first part is on the Constitution of the USA and the second part on the UK Constitution and the third part Constitution of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Basic law of Governance).

The part for the USA and the part for the UK must be two pages each and the section on KSA is to be one page.

You are required to substantiate your answers with reference to extracts from the US, UK, and Saudi Constitutional sources.

In this essay, you should make reference to checks and balances.

Technology (Social Media) controversial issues in law enforcement

The student will research and write a 3000 word paper, double spaced, APA formatted paper on a controversial issue that involves technology. For example, many new officers utilize social media including Facebook, My Space and Twitter. As a law enforcement manager, what are the implications (strengths and weaknesses) of social media? Could the use of social media create potential policy violations? Does your agency have a policy on social media? Other examples include the collection of DNA (proposition 69), drones, body-worn cameras or the use of electronic devices on combative suspects. It is up to you on the topic, but it must be controversial.

Thoroughly summarize the technology or issue and provide an introduction to the technology (history and use of technology). The research paper should compare and contrast the controversial issue and its impact on all stakeholders, including the public. The paper should also assess the limitations, strengths and potential of technology relative to your controversial issue. Finally, the paper must highlight the role of a public safety manager and how the technology can help or hurt the delivery of services to the public.

The research paper shall have a minimum of ten (10) references including at least one internet source.

Make sure to cite all references in the body of the research paper.

Information in Paper instructions

For your final submission, you are to submit the research paper you have been working on throughout the course.
