Two Discussion Questions

Quality improvement is a continual process that recognizes changing patient needs and updates both clinical and administrative processes to meet those needs and provide the best possible care. How can social marketing assist with this notion of changing patient needs? How does coming to better understand the target customer or patient enhance a health care organizations ability to meet patients needs?

Explain how using the PDSA tool to collect and analyze data for the purposes of quality improvement initiatives parallels formative research conducted in social marketing.

Continuous Quality Improvement Using A Social Marketing Approach

The purpose of this assignment is to apply social marketing tactics to a continuous quality improvement approach within a health care context.

Social marketing (not to be confused with social media marketing) is a process that utilizes marketing principles and techniques to influence the target audience to adopt positive voluntary behavioral changes.

For this assignment, you will be looking at aspects of social marketing in greater depth to draw connections between this approach and continuous quality improvement in health care. Identify an aspect of patient care in need of quality improvement and error reduction at the health care facility where you work or at one with which you are familiar (e.g., medical error reduction, surgical error reduction, appropriate utilization, pharmaceutical accuracy).

Create a 10-12 slide PowerPoint presentation (not including a reference slide), with detailed speaker notes, that addresses the following components of your social marketing approach to continuous quality improvement (CQI):

  1. Describe the problem and present your proposal for a quality-improvement-based solution.
  2. Conduct a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis on your proposal for improvement.
  3. Describe the target audience whose behavior you are aiming to positively influence. Be specific.
  4. Present specific objectives and goals you would like to achieve. Draw connections between the implementation of quality improvement strategies and error reduction.
  5. Identify factors surrounding the implementation of your improvement proposal that could positively or negatively sway the target audience’s behavior. These could be motivating reasons for the target audience to adopt your recommendations or potential barriers to implementation that may discourage or dissuade them from complying.
  6. Describe how you intend to strategically market your proposal to the target audience.
  7. Describe how you plan to monitor and evaluate the success of your quality improvement strategies.
  8. Describe what type of financial backing you will need in order to implement your proposal and any budgetary restraints that could present an obstacle to the execution of your improvement strategies.
  9. Present an implementation plan to put your proposal into action.

Cite at least three references, including the textbook.

Refer to the resource, “Creating Effective PowerPoint Presentations,” located in the Student Success Center, for additional guidance on completing this assignment in the appropriate style.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

Discussion

Requirements:

Students must both address the Discussion Forum issue(s), as well as comment on the posts of a minimum two of their classmates to adequately complete the assignment. There is no minimum or maximum length as long as all the issues are fully addressed.

Students striving for a superlative grade should go above and beyond the minimum requirements of the assignment.

Topic:

Environmental Crimes

View the following video before completing this week’s forum.

Do a bit of your own research in addition to the reading and the videos.  Describe an example of a business, corporation or other organization committing a crime against the environment. What was the damage? What was the punishment? How do we balance the need for energy with keeping the environment, citizens and communities safe and healthy?

Principles of Risk Management

Read these instructions carefully.
Your thread must be at least 200275 words. This range is a minimum requirement, and NOT a maximum limit. You may write as much as you need to make your strongest arguments. Although more is not necessarily better, it is reasonable that the best discussions are the ones that show the best evidence in support of the assertions.

Your thread must reflect critical thought. There are two philosophical reference points that form the basis for our government, and by extension, our governments role in securing our borders.  These are (1) the Holy Bible, and (2) principles of self-governance as expressed in our Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.  These principles were frequently articulated by our Founders and are provided for you in the document entitled American Founding Principles.  For every discussion topic, try to relate the course content to real-world applications with biblical perspectives and link back to at least one Founding principle. Also, a minimum of 1 source is referenced appropriately; cite any sources used.  More is better.

Using the 4 classical phases of disaster management, discuss how collaboration between public and private organizations can support phases one and two of the model. Choose a threat/hazard/disaster and describe the possible interactions and involvement of each organization. Consider specific agencies that could support desired goals. Be sure to link back to American Founding Principles as well references to the importance of private property in maintaining a balance of power between citizens and government (from the Balance of Power article).

Reference documents will be uploaded to the assigned writer.

Discussion on terrorism replies

You must write (2) replies of at least 140 words each to other classmates threads (file attached), and a minimum of 1 source is referenced appropriately for each reply. Note that both quantity and quality are important considerations when it comes to participation. For example, a message that says simply, I agree, does not constitute participation because it does not add anything of substance to the discussion.
In order to earn points, you must add something of substance to the discussion; this would consist of new ideas, your perspectives, pointed follow-up questions, etc.
Responding to a classmates post requires both the addition of new ideas and further analysis. A particular point made by the classmate must be addressed and built upon by your analysis in order to move the conversation forward. Thus, the response post is a rigorous assignment that requires you to build upon initial posts to develop deeper and more thorough discussion of the ideas introduced in the initial posts. As such, reply posts that merely affirm, restate or unprofessionally quarrel with the previous post(s) and fail to make a valuable, substantive contribution to the discussion will receive appropriate point deductions.

Trapped in a Vice: The Consequences of Confinement for Young People

Title:        Trapped in a Vice: The Consequences of Confinement for Young People

Author:    Cox,  Alexandra L.

Publisher:  Rutgers University Press

Copyright Date:  2017,  219 pages

Class,
I would like for each of you to use the following headings in your critique/reviews.

Author Credibility:  In this section tell the reader what specifically makes this author(s) credible.  Do not simply tell me the author was a police officer for 25 years. This fact alone does not make one credible. If you do not feel the author is credible or you are unable to evaluate the credibility of the author, tell this to the reader.

Methodology:  Identify the data used by the author. What type of research is this, ethnography, case study, simple descriptive stats, qualitative or quantitative, or some other methodology.  Can this research be replicated by others? Is this research methodology scientific in nature? If you are unsure what “scientific Research is, then please review a stats or research methods book.

Book Summary:  A general summary of the book content.
Who Should Read: Who specifically should read this book and why? Is this book of any use to rank and file police officers. Is it of any use to anyone in the CJ system? If yes who and why/how. If it is of no use to the CJ field, tell this to the reader of your review/critique. If not CJ professionals, who may benefit from reading this book.  Do not tell me “everyone” working in the CJ field should read this book.

Strengths:  What specific strengths were noted in this book?  Was it well written? Was it well organized.  Identify any specific strengths found in the writing of the book.

DO NOT combine Strengths and Weaknesses

Weaknesses: What if any weaknesses did you note? Was the book poorly researched?  Was it poorly written or poorly organized.  Did the author use the wrong methodology.
Adds to the body of CJ Lit:  What does this book give us?  Is there anything new?  Is it just a rewrite of the same old info that can be found in any number of other books?  How does it add to the existing body of CJ lit.?

Publication Date: If the book is over 10 years old, please address this in your critique. How is this material relevant today?

Each review should contain each of the individual headings and address them as best as you can.  Do not merge Strengths and Weaknesses under one heading. I want these broke out under their own heading.

Expectations:

Mechanics, formatting and grammar
The student uses grammar, spelling and punctuation correctly without errors.

Organization
The student presents the material coherently and logically following an outline with appropriate use of headings to include introductory and conclusion material. There is a transition between paragraphs and sections.

Content
The student fully develops and supports ideas with more than the required number of scholarly, peer reviewed, sources correctly cited and referenced.

Critical thinking
The student correctly displays at least three critical thinking skills by conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating the requested information

Title Page and Reference page are not included in the required 4 pages.

Legal Studies and Ethics

Stakeholder vs Shareholder theories have been an on-going debate. Many scandals in recent history such as Enron, WorldCom, Wells Fargo, and others, are often used as evidence that the shareholder theory encourages or at least opens the door for unethical decision-making. Stakeholder and shareholder theories are normative theories of social responsibility. Some business leaders argue there is very little if any difference to the two theories as both support social responsibility. Does shareholder theory encourage unethical business decisions? In what ways do the theories support social responsibility? How would one determine the stakeholder priority when making an ethical decision when competing needs of the stakeholders are apparent?

You will need to do an in-depth literary search on the topic in order to create a fully-developed response. You will need to include in-text citations and a references list for external references used in supporting your points for this question. You should have no fewer than 7 references for your response to this particular question, 4 of which must be from peer-reviewed sources. Use APA formatting where appropriate.

Facts

Joe, a 14 year old, was at a party. At 12:30 a.m., he was sitting on the steps to the apartment where the party was occurring when he saw two police cars arrive. He yelled to the party-goers, 5-0. Joe remained sitting outside as the police approached. An officer took Joe to a police car and sat him in the back seat. The offer asked Joe his name, date of birth, address, and his parents names and phone number. The officer cited Joe for the curfew violation.

Rule of Law

A person subject to a custodial interrogation must be given Miranda rights before the questioning begins. Custody is defined as a reasonable persons liberty is retrained to the extent they believe they are not free to leave. Interrogation is defined as being asked any questions that would likely lead to an answer that would incriminate oneself. The cur-few law states a person under the age of 15 who is outside their residence past 11:00 p.m. without the presence of a parent, guardian, or supervising adult, is a delinquent youth.

Assignment

The researchers assignment is to determine if the offi-cer should have read Joe the Miranda warning before questioning him.

Discussion Board Forum Module/Week 5 — Education Policy

For each Discussion Board Forum assignment, you will interact in a free-flowing discussion of the biblical and constitutional parameters for the particular policy focus of the assigned module/week. These posts should be short and succinct (3-5 sentences at most per post) and should encourage greater interaction with your classmates. Thus, you are to post according to the following guidelines:

Biblical: One separate post (3-5 sentences) discussing Biblical principles such as natural law, inalienable rights, sphere sovereignty/covenant, the Sin/Crime distinction and the institutional separation of Church and State

Constitutional: one separate post (3-5 sentences) referencing the enumerated powers, Articles and Amendments from the Constitution which are relevant to the assigned policy area

There must be two separate posts. Both posts must focus on the general policy area for the assigned Module/Week. For instance, when the course module focuses on criminal justice, the Biblical post must focus on what the Bible says about what government may or may not do in fighting crime. Likewise, the Constitutional post must focus on what the Constitution says about what government may or may not do in fighting crime. Specific examples should be used and cited.

Feel free to interact with your classmates, but for grading purposes, you will only need the two posts mentioned above.

You must use the following sources:

1. the Bible,

2. relevant presentations and articles from Modules/Weeks 12 which focus on biblical and constitutional ideas, including the Biblical Principles of Government article,

3. the required reading from the assigned module/week, and

4. any additional relevant sources that you would like to use.
