In the Little Book of Race and Restorative Justice, the author, Fania E. Davis, takes the position that principles of restorative justice should be in the forefront, and the center, of racial reconciliation in the United States. She believes that it is the only way to heal the nation.

Select an incident of racial injustice that has occurred in the United States, i.e. Ferguson police shooting, Trayvon Martin, Starbucks ejecting black men, and apply one of the restorative justice models you learned about this semester. These models include, mediation, circles, conferencing, impact panels, truth and reconciliation hearings.

3. Then you would discuss, inclusion who should be there? What do you think they might say? What might be discussed? Tell me and explain it.

4. Could there be Amends?

Crim 2330 Assignment

Written Assignment
In this assignment you will explain an offender with a biopsychosocial perspective, using research from empirical sources. This assignment is intended to provide an opportunity to integrate and apply the various concepts discussed in class and the readings. For this assignment you will research and provide potential theoretical explanations that may have contributed to a true-life offender’s crime(s). You must choose two theories from two different categories of theories. The categories are:social theories (chapters 7, 8 and parts of 4 that discuss social aspects like parenting), biological theories (chapters 2 and 3) and psychological theories (chapters 5, 6, 9 and 10). In your analysis of the offender, explain how well these theories explain the offender. Importantly, also discuss research on this theory and include any limitations of this theory. The research should be on the theory and how it explains the type of crimes/violence/antisocial behaviour of your chosen offender. For instance, if your chosen offender committed sexual homicides and youve chosen paraphilia as a theory, the research should be about the connection between paraphilia and sexual homicide or violence. Do not forget that you also need an introduction and conclusion for your paper. This assignment is due on November 23, 2000. Late assignments will be penalized 5% per day. Papers submitted more than one week late will not be accepted. Please see the marking rubric on the next page for more details on how this will be marked. Your paper will need to have an introduction and a conclusion.

For this assignment you will choose a real life offender and explain their behaviour with two theories, using research studies. You will relate these theories to the offender’s actions and/or psychosocial history. You will also examine the applicability of these two theories critically, including any limitations the theory as (e.g. limited research support; behaviours the theory doesnt explain well; behaviours the theory cannot explain at all). A detailed description of this assignment is in the back pages of this syllabus, and a marking rubric

Interpreting the Sheriff Offices’ Chi-square

Below is a chi-square and Cramers V statistic from Maricopa Countys Sheriff Offices Annual Report (2014-2015). The tables tests the relationship between whether a driver had an item seized by that drivers race. The chi-square is significant, so a relationship exists.

What does this tell us about the organization? How does the Cramers V weigh in here?

What do you see as the number one most pressing issue regarding homeland security, and why do you say this?
What are your solutions to this issue?
Did this course cause you to change your mind or opinion about anything related to homeland security? If so, what was it?
Why or why not? Maybe something was reinforcedif so, explain.
What was the most important thing you learned in this course, and why (an “aha” moment)?

DB 7 (500) Understanding Critical Infrastructure

Topic: Understanding Critical Infrastructure

Critical infrastructure includes a great many areas of concern and focus. Thinking back to risk and mitigation, these two areas tie directly to critical infrastructure protection, dont they? Within mitigation, we discussed two ways to mitigate: structural and non-structural efforts.

What do you believe is our most vulnerable critical infrastructure (choose any you wish except the border)?
Why do you say this?
How would you enhance security regarding this type of infrastructure?
Remember there are two types of mitigation efforts.

The second part of this forum deals specifically with border security and immigration policy.

How secure are our borders?
Is it important to secure our borders, and if so, why or why not?
What would you propose to better secure our borders?
Your thread must be completed by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Thursday of Module/Week 7, and your replies must completed by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of the same module/week.

No Matter How Loud I Shout: A Year in the Life of Juvenile Court

A Critical Book Review is a thoughtful discussion of a texts contents, strengths, and limitations. A critical book review should reflect your capacity to read critically and to evaluate an authors arguments and evidence. Compose your reviewof No Matter How Loud I Shout: A Year in the Life of Juvenile Courtas you would any essay, with an argument supported by evidence, and a clear, logical structure.

INITIAL STEPS
1. Read the book carefully, taking notes on material that you think may be relevant or quotable and on your impressions of the author’s ideas and arguments.
2. Determine the authors principal argument, the chief themes of the text, the kinds of evidence used, and the way in which the author uses them.
ORGANIZING THE REVIEW
1. In no more than two paragraphs, introduce the book. Give your initial appraisal of the work, including your key observation on the text. This key observation will be your thesis. Try not to begin with a flat statement such as This book is interesting. Begin with an anecdote, a challenging quotation, or a key observation.
2. (this is the bulk of your paper) Follow with descriptive analysis and evaluation of the text. You may either treat these topics separately, first (and probably easiest way to organize) describing the books contents, the author’s argument, presentation, and evidence, and then offering your own evaluation, or you may weave the two together (this way is more difficultyou must be an above average writer to weave). In either case:
a) clearly set out the authors purpose in writing the book, and whether or not you think the author has succeeded.
b) describe the authors arguments and the themes of the book, and give your appraisal of their validity and effectiveness.
c) describe the sources and evidence the author uses to prove his case, and evaluate their appropriateness and sufficiency. What are the author’s sources? Should the author have used more, or different, sources?
d) Comment on the author’s organization and writing style.
3. Conclude. Here you may make more general remarks about the text and the ideas presented in it. If you have not already done so, indicate whether you feel the book is worthwhile, and for what audience. Is the book outstanding? Will it make a lasting contribution to its field, or is it less satisfactory?

QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER THROUGHOUT YOUR PAPER
Although you should not use the following questions as some sort of laundry list of things to include, you may wish to consider them as you prepare and write your review.
Analysis of Content
What is the authors principal argument? What are her/his conclusions?
What does the author choose to emphasize?

Any topic (writer’s choice)

CJBS 415 Capstone Seminar for BS in Criminal Justice

John Augustus

Summarize the chapter and answer the following questions as part of your summary:

1.    What was the attitude and role of Augustus wife in his probation work? Consider any direct or indirect references to her. Consider also the role of other women mentioned by Augustus. Augustus general attitude towards women, as inferred from his references to women, may be another important part of an answer to this question.

2.    Augustus mentioned the number of people transported in his horse carriage. He also gave the number of clients he handled each year. There is a vast discrepancy in these two sets of numbers. What are the numbers? Based on other things in the reading, how could this discrepancy be explained?

3.    Augustus gradually moved the bulk of his probation work from the Police Court to the Municipal Court. How much did he shift from one court to the other? Why? Did this affect the kinds of cases he handled? Did shifting to the Municipal Court bring a shift from probation to other work?

4.    Did handling different kinds of cases require different amounts and kinds of work on the part of Augustus? What were the different kinds of cases? What did he have to do in the different kinds of cases? What differences were there in the ways he handled different kinds of cases? What consequences did this have for his own life?

5.    Where did the money come from for Augustus probation work? Did the sources of money change as time went by? How much bail was he liable for? How much was he actually putting up? How did the expenses of probation affect his personal wealth? What assets did he have at the end?

6.    Why did Augustus stop his efforts to shut down houses of prostitution? What was different about these cases? What were the special difficulties with these cases? What was the opposition in these cases? Did Augustus think that police or other officials had connections to houses of prostitution?
