any

In any given language, there are always changes going on. In this response, please speculate about one or more changes that you think might happen in English in the next 50-150 years, based on current trends. This can be a change in any aspect from phonetics all the way to semantics.

You are being asked to speculate. We are looking for creative, original thinking.

It’s ok to use outside sources to learn about possible future changes, but the response should be your words and ideas.

If you want a very good grade, avoid the topic you find on a blog post in the top 10 results after searching “future changes in English”. Many people will write about that.

Pick something that is meaningful enough to talk about for 200 words, with no useless filler sentences (i.e., it should not start like this “English is a language spoken in many countries…”).

Public Safety

Case Study
Using the case study scenario, prepare a paper that identifies the various potential ethical issues and analyze the impact on the organization. The body of the Case Study shall be 8-10 pages, excluding other material such as the cover page, abstract, table of contents, graphics and tables, and references.
The Case Study Paper shall contain:
    Cover Page
    Abstract
    Body of Paper (8-to-10 pages)
    References Page
The paper shall be formatted as follows:
    APA 6th edition
    1 inch margins
12 point font, either New Times Roman or Arial font style
Double spaced, making sure there are no “extra” spaces in between paragraphs
Properly formatted Section headings as appropriate

Case Study Scenario
In 1918, an influenza pandemic killed an estimated 675,000 people in the United States If a pandemic of this scale occurring today, an extrapolation of the 1918 pandemic would result in an estimated 1.9 million deaths in the United States if public health actions are not effectively undertaken. The impact on towns, cities, states, and the nation could be devastating. Experts estimate that a pandemic will occur every 30 to 50 years. Based on this information, the probability of another pandemic within the next twenty years is very real.
You are a public safety official in your community and you are responsible for working to develop emergency pandemic influenza plans and  coordinating federal, state, and local responses. Pandemics occur in waves and endure for at least 18 months, further complicating effective public safety planning. The role of local governments in the planning and implementation processes is paramount. Planning for this health hazard and corresponding threat to public safety, however, can present numerous public safety obstacles.
A myriad of ethical issues will arise with the next influenza pandemic. Some of the decisions regarding these matters will be unprecedented. While banning public outings, closing public schools, and asking employees to stay at home may be troublesome measures for local public officials to undertake, the decisions regarding the allocation of limited resources such as vaccines and antivirals, the imposition of restrictive measures on the public such as isolation and quarantines, and the level of risk that the public workforce should be expected to face while assisting individuals infected with the influenza virus are much more formidable. While the federal government will provide only broad guidelines for state and local government emergency planners, specific decisions regarding vaccination at the local level, maintenance of emergency response and lifesaving services, and provision of other critical needs may have unprecedented legal and ethical implications. As a public safety official, identify as many ethical issues as you foresee your community having to face in the next influenza pandemic. Briefly discuss what solutions you might offer to resolve each ethical issue identified.

Gender and Society

Gender and Society
Many people take the concept of gender for granted: you are either born a male or a female. For some individuals, gender is a natural or God-given biological determination. Sigmund Freud once famously said, Biology is destiny.  But since the 19th century, gender has come under different scrutiny. Sociologists and psychologists, anthropologists and medical doctors all have begun to see gender as a social construction and the categories of masculine and feminine are not as stable and arbitrary as western society has historically determined. Gender roles, too, come with certain expectations about societys beliefs.  However in todays society we are seeing a radical shift in gender roles. The categories of male and female are now being challenged; social media has impacted and even led to the change of categorizing gender into 58 types. Nevertheless, is society ready to accept concepts such as Gender fluid and two-spirit?  And how does that help or complicate raising a child within a societal paradigm? On another point, will gender roles of male and female be obsolete in the future? Have men and women in society begun to change behavior and their choices of work, lifestyle, and beliefs based on new gender-role models, such as men being primary caregivers and women being the economic heads of the household? Will people resist new gender roles and designates as the issues become more complicated or will society become more diverse and accepting of new roles?

Write an essay that addresses one or more of the above issues on Gender and Society. You may consider  such subtopics as gender and popular culture,  traditional and nontraditional gender-roles,  gender and sex,  the transition of gender and behavior, gender roles and education. , “gender and the ‘#Me too’ movement. You may develop your own subtopic as well.

the reading “From Rosie to Lucy” (if it applies) as well as other articles you research on the topic.
