Evaluate a Case in Public Personnel Management

Instructions

This week, you have the task of analyzing a case study entitled, Louisiana and Vision 2020. In your evaluation, avoid summarizing the case. Instead, analyze the case critically and assess how it pertains to this weeks readings. Refer to the Guide to a Successful Case Study Analysis for additional guidance. Remember, excellent analyses are a combination of critical and analytical thoughts connected to greater themes presented in the readings and this is not an easy task.
Be sure to include the following required elements in your assignment:
Briefly describe what you consider two or three major (primary) and integrative points of issues contained in the readings.
Explain how these points or issues integrate with the material covered in the class thus far and explain their relevance to you.
Provide a brief description of the questions/challenges you have regarding the readings and explain why they are important.
Explain why the case is noteworthy.
Explain how it pertains to the assigned readings (i.e., complements, contradicts, extends the readings).
Identify the implications for you as the newly hired Director of Personnel Administration for Public Organization X.
As you complete your analysis, keep the following questions in mind:
How might you coordinate such efforts across agencies, industries, and sectors? What state agencies might be tasked with implementing the workforce-training benchmarks?
What roles might secondary and postsecondary education have in advancing toward the workforce-training benchmarks? How might community and technical colleges contribute to achieving these benchmarks?
What benefits might you champion as ensuing from the achievement of workforce-training goals for the state? What, if any, other benchmarks might be affected by achieving a more educated and better-trained workforce in the state?
Do not include the following in your analysis:
A summary of the readings
A detailed description of the case
Any editorials
5 scholarly resources

Plagiarism Excercise

Plagiarism Exercise
You are assuming the role of teacher in this exercise.  A student submitted a paper in response to an assignment in your class.  A second student has come to you indicating he is aware the first student plagiarized on this assignment.  You ask a few questions to get a better understanding of the accusations and you commit to investigating this charge.  You will find the submitted paper in this weeks module of your course.  Your research shows the first highlighted area was copied from Masciarelli and the second from Frisch & Green.

Additionally, write a 825 word, APA 6 structured (no abstract required) double-spaced summary of your investigation.  Did the student plagiarize?  Presume you did not know the outcome going into your investigation.  What evidence would have helped you make the determination?  Provide examples of evidence in your response.  How would you confront this student about the plagiarism?  Presume this is an online course.  What would you say to the student?  As part of your response to the student, please list at least two (2) resources you would recommend to help guide him/her to an improved product.

As this exercise is more applied, there is no need for scholarly resources.

Paper instructions:
Note: Module 2 SLP should be completed before the Module 2 Case.

Prepare an outline for the essay assigned for the Module 2 Case using the Formal Essay Outline.

SLP Assignment Expectations
Create a detailed formal outline for the essay assigned as the Module 2 Case.

2nd part to this assignment

Note: Module 2 SLP should be completed before the Module 2 Case.

Reflecting on the four gender-related videos for Module 2, write a well-organized and well-supported essay in which you help challenge societys limiting gender narratives.

A well-organized essay has a beginning, middle, and an end. The beginning, or introduction, should include an opening sentence to grab your readers attention. Follow the opening sentence with a brief background on the topic or situation. In this case, it would be an explanation of gender roles, stereotypes, myths, and/or controls in society today. The last sentence of the introduction is the thesis statement. The thesis states the main point of the essay, which in this case, would be a statement affirming what needs to be done to limit gender narratives in society today.

A well-supported essay includes supporting points, details, and examples. For this essay, you must decide the best way to organize the body of the paper. Will you have a paragraph for each change? Will you divide the body of your paper into three or more paragraphs, one for each point? In any case, each body paragraph must support (explain) your reasoning (rationale) using specific details. Each body paragraph must have a topic sentence that states the main point of the paragraph.

The conclusion typically summarizes the main points of the essay and/or closes with a lasting impression that connects the reader to their world. In this case, where is our society headed? Is it too late for change?

Be sure to proofread your essay and edit for proper grammar, punctuation, diction (word choice), and spelling, as errors in sentence skills will lower a final grade. A grade will be determined based on the Module 2 Case expectations and the Trident University General Education rubric for English.

Papers must be double-spaced in Times or Times New Roman font (12 cpi) with standard one-inch margins.

The first person “I” is not used in a formal essay.

This essay must include a combination of no fewer than SIX in-text citations from the four assigned background sources for Module 2. Citations are to be a combination of direct quotations and paraphrased quotations with or without the author’s name. No additional outside sources are to be used for this assignment

Breakthroughs in Evolution

In this weeks discussion, you will choose a recent article concerning any aspect of evolution. Because it is so multifaceted, evolution is the subject of many peer-review research articles in biology and medicine. It is also something that touches all of us in one way or another so it is a frequent subject of popular news articles as well.

1.First, read the Module Notes and Chapters 15-17 in the textbook. Next, choose a recent article on about any aspect of evolution. For example, the article may be the discovery of a new organism and where it fits on the evolutionary tree. Or, it could be about new findings that change current ideas about evolution. Your article choice may be from either a peer-reviewed journal article or a popular news article. If you need ideas for your search, use the links below.

Science Daily (https://www.sciencedaily.com/.)
Science Magazine (https://www.sciencemag.org/news/latest-news)
Science News (https://www.sciencenews.org/)
Excelsior College Library (https://my.excelsior.edu/web/library)

2. Then, using your article and knowledge gained from this module, prepare an audio presentation of less than 2-3 minutes. Your purpose is to create an educational weekly audio for a syndicated news podcast called Current Events in Evolution, meant for postsecondary science students.

The audio presentation should be less than two minutes long. If youd prefer to create a video presentation, this is acceptable as well.

Along with the audio, you need to include a written transcript of your presentation. This can be copy/pasted into the body of your discussion board post.

You should also include a list of any references used in your post and audio presentation, using APA
If you are unable to create the audio please contact your instructor for alternative arrangements.

Any topic (writer’s choice)

Suppose you are a policy advisor for Governor DeSantis. He has just informed you that his constituents would like him to comment on the state of organ donation and address the inability of the current system to meet demand. His office is in charge of finding solutions to the difficult issue of organ trade.

He will be addressing the issue in the upcoming commission meeting and needs an economic analysis of the situation completed before then for review. Refer to the articles Black Market Bodies and Meat Market to help you begin to your analysis. Use the articles and other references you may find to evaluate the limitations that exist with the current solution to meeting organ demand in the US.

The governor asks that you draw upon your critical thinking and problem-solving skills in order to break down the complex problem that exists in the market for drugs and help him examine, propose, and support potential solutions. You are encouraged to propose and original solution or contribution even if it deviates from mainstream solutions.

In your analysis you must address the following:

What is the general state of organ donation in the US, according to the 2017 article?
Consider what would happen if the US did allow payment in exchange for kidney donation.  Provide a critical analysis – use the supply/demand diagram to help illustrate and discuss the current state of the market and also what the market would look like in the case of a free market economy (deregulation).
Who gains and who loses when deregulation occurs? Discuss the efficiency and equity of the market before and after the proposed deregulation.
Explore the policies that are currently implemented across the globe (i.e. those discussed in the articles – routine removal, presumed consent, organ donor points, “no give, no take”, etc.). Evaluate the limitations of these policies. Also consider how these policies fair in terms of the efficiency vs. equity debate. (you do not need to critique them all, select 2 or 3 that you find interesting/appealing)
Come up with a policy proposal of your own that might help deal with the vast shortage of kidneys in the US. Use the supply/demand diagram to show how the policy will decrease the current shortage of kidneys and analyze the impact to society.
If you had to pick from one of the policies you described, including your new proposal, which would you recommend for the US? Why? (If you feel strongly that our current policy is the best policy this is a valid argument, however you must defend your “no new policy” recommendation).

Keep in mind, Governor Desantis is not one for 1,000 page policy briefs.  He prefers his analysis to be professional, clear, complete, correct, and most importantly concise. His constituents also require credible sources so be sure to document all references. See GEA Grading Rubric below and Citation Guidelines (Canvas).

Steps to Examine How a Market Change Will Affect Consumers and Producers:

Determine how the supply/demand curves will shift.
Determine how these shifts will change the equilibrium price/quantity and if a shortage exists/changes.
Determine if the market is more or less efficient.
Analyze how these changes will affect the consumers, producers, and society.

Student Assessment

This assignment will be used to assess the required components of the general education curriculum. This course certifies as Creative Thinking and therefore the assignment will access students ability to:

Perform critical and analytical thinking
Problem Solve
Provide effective written communication
Evaluate the limitations imposed on any new approach or solution within a discipline to propose original contributions to problems.
Break Down complex problems to examine, propose, and support potential solutions even if those solutions deviate from acceptable, mainstream solutions.

Requirements: 750 words, double spaced, times new roman or calibri font, must have a supply/demand graph for initial US market and another graph for deregulated market.
