Required Resources
Read/review the following resources for this activity:

Textbook: Chapter 11(the elements of moral philosophy)
Lesson
Minimum of 1 scholarly source (in addition to the textbook)
Initial Post Instructions
In week three, we were looking at rights ethics with regards to Locke. As a reminder, Locke said we have inalienable rights to life, liberty, and property. It is immoral to violate them. Many think we have more rights than those listed by Locke. Some even think we have a right to health care. That means it is the duty of the state to provide each citizen with their medical needs.

Rights theory says to respect the entitlements we have. If a right is inalienable, it cannot truly be violated ethically even with our consent. We have basic needs. Rights are something beyond needs. They are what we should be authorized to have. We are due what we have a right to. That is not always the case with need. For example, we need food, but people often go hungry. A need refers to something we need physically to exist. A right is a moral entitlement to something. Asking if we have a right to food is a moral question. Needs are determined by the requirements of the body and of material existence. Rights are determined by moral reflection, inquiry, an argument We have a right to own property. We do not need it to live. We could imaginably be allowed to use another’s. We have a right to own a home. We can rent.

Initial Post Instructions
For the initial post, respond to one of the following options, and label the beginning of your post indicating either Option 1 or Option 2:

Option 1: Assess the moral solutions arrived at through “care” (care-based ethics) and “rights” ethics to social issues of ethical import such as poverty, drug use, and/or lack of health care,

That is, note any ethical problems that arise related to those particular issues. Then, say how both care-based and rights theory of ethics would solve those problems.

Are those solutions correct? Why or why not?

What is your own approach there?

Option 2: What moral guidelines should we use when it comes to recently introduced healthcare technologies of any kind (you will note and engage with your own examples) and social technologies of any kind (you will note and engage with your own examples)?

Involve care-based ethics in your answer

Follow-Up Post Instructions
Respond to at least two peers or one peer and the instructor. If possible, respond to one peer who chose an option different than the one you chose. Further the dialogue by providing more information and clarification. Make sure that you add additional information and not repeat the same information already posted on the discussion board as you further the dialogue.

Textbook: Chapter 11(the elements of moral philosophy)
Lesson
Minimum of 2 scholarly sources

Instructions

Each scenario must be original to you and this assignment. It cannot be from the discussion boards in this class or any other previous forum.
Articulate (and then assess) the ethical solutions that can found using “care” (care-based ethics) and “rights” ethics to those problems.
Assessment must ask if the solutions are flawed, practicable, persuasive, etc.
What health care technology is involved in the situation? What moral guidelines for using that kind of healthcare technology should be used there? Explore such guidelines also using utilitarianism, Kantian deontology, ethical egoism, or social contract ethics.
Say how social technologies such as blogs, crowdfunding, online encyclopedias can be used in either case. What moral guidelines for using that kind of healthcare technology should be used there? Develop such guidelines also using utilitarianism, Kantian deontology, ethical egoism, or social contract ethics.
You should not be using any text you used in a discussion board or assignment for this class or any previous class.

3 page essay about types of research

Instructions
Before you begin this assignment, make sure that you read Chapter 1, paying special attention to the section titled, Mode of Enquiry Perspective.

You are the assistant fire chief of a fire department in a growing suburban metropolitan area. The department currently has four stations and 57 full-time employees. Because of the growth of the area, an additional fire station must be built. The city manager has tasked the fire chief with conducting research to determine the best place to build the new fire station and how to staff new fire apparatus once it opens. The fire chief, in turn, is delegating some of the responsibility of completing the initial research to you.

Using knowledge that you have gained from this unit, compare and contrast the three approaches to research (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods), and provide an overview to the fire chief about how she can best approach addressing the city manager’s request.

Be sure to address the following topics in your essay.

Explain the basic premise of each of the approaches.
Explain how the three approaches are similar.
Explain how the three approaches differ.
Explain when you would use one approach over the other.
Do you think one approach is better than the others?
Justify your recommendation to the fire chief on which approach to research would be most appropriate to meet the city manager’s request.
Your essay must be at least two full (but not more than five) pages in length, not including the required title and reference pages. It must also contain at least two sources in addition to your textbook. Remember to review the rubric before you begin your essay.

The MEAL plan is a way to organize your paragraphs as you write; it helps writers create strong, thorough paragraphs. The letters, “M-E-A-L,” form an acronym that stands for the following:
MMain idea: This is usually expressed in a strong topic sentence.
See tips on using a strong topic sentence.
EEvidence: Once your readers are clear what the main topic of your paragraph is, you can use source material as evidence to discuss your topic and promote your academic argument. The word “evidence” is another way to say source citations.
See tips on how to best use evidence.
AAnalysis: After giving the evidence, youll want to explain, incorporate, and integrate that evidence by providing some analysis. Analysis is where you can compare, contrast, and provide explanations for the source material, why it is important, and how it relates to your main idea.
LLead out: The lead-out sentence or sentences are where you will sum up what the paragraph discussed and then preview what is coming in the next paragraph so that the reader can smoothly move from one idea to the next.

Week 7 Assgn (6301)

Using the empirical research article that your instructor approved in the Week 5 assignment, ask yourself: Is this a quantitative research article or a qualitative research article? Remember, in quantitative research, the emphasis is on measuring social phenomenon because it is assumed that everything can be observed, measured, and quantified. On the other hand, in qualitative research, it is assumed that social phenomenon cannot be easily reduced and broken down into concepts that can be measured and quantified. Instead, there may be different meanings to phenomenon and experiences. Often in qualitative research, researchers use interviews, focus groups and observations to gather data and then report their findings using words and quotations.

Consider how these different methods affect the sampling design and recruitment strategy, and ask yourself how the recruitment of research participants will affect the findings.

For this Assignment, submit a 3-4 page paper. Complete the following:

Read your selected empirical research article, and identify whether the study is a quantitative or qualitative study. Justify the reasons why you believe it is a quantitative or qualitative study. (Your instructor will indicate to you if you are correct in identifying the research design. This will point you to whether you will use the Quantitative Article and Review Critique or the Qualitative Article and Review Critique guidelines for the final assignment in week 10.)
Using the empirical research article, focus on the sampling method in the study and begin to evaluate the sampling method by answering the following:
Describe the sampling methods in your own words (paraphrase, do not quote from the article).
Describe the generalizability or the transferability of the research finding based on the sampling method.
Discuss the limitations the article identified with the sample and how those limitations affect the reliability or credibility.
Explain one recommendation you would make to improve the sampling plan of the study that would address these limitations in future research.
