The Impact of Nursing Informatics on Patient Outcomes and Patient Care Efficiencies

In the Discussion for this module, you considered the interaction of nurse informaticists with other specialists to ensure successful care. How is that success determined?

Patient outcomes and the fulfillment of care goals is one of the major ways that healthcare success is measured. Measuring patient outcomes results in the generation of data that can be used to improve results. Nursing informatics can have a significant part in this process and can help to improve outcomes by improving processes, identifying at-risk patients, and enhancing efficiency.

To Prepare:

Review the concepts of technology application as presented in the Resources.
Reflect on how emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence may help fortify nursing informatics as a specialty by leading to increased impact on patient outcomes or patient care efficiencies.
The Assignment: (4-5 pages)

In a 4- to 5-page project proposal written to the leadership of your healthcare organization, propose a nursing informatics project for your organization that you advocate to improve patient outcomes or patient-care efficiency. Your project proposal should include the following:

Describe the project you propose.
Identify the stakeholders impacted by this project.
Explain the patient outcome(s) or patient-care efficiencies this project is aimed at improving and explain how this improvement would occur. Be specific and provide examples.
Identify the technologies required to implement this project and explain why.
Identify the project team (by roles) and explain how you would incorporate the nurse informaticist in the project team.

Legislation Comparison Grid and Testimony/Advocacy Statement

As a nurse, how often have you thought to yourself, If I had anything to do about it, things would work a little differently? Increasingly, nurses are beginning to realize that they do, in fact, have a role and a voice.

Many nurses encounter daily experiences that motivate them to take on an advocacy role in hopes of impacting policies, laws, or regulations that impact healthcare issues of interest. Of course, doing so means entering the less familiar world of policy and politics. While many nurses do not initially feel prepared to operate in this space effectively, the reward is the opportunity to shape and influence future health policy.

To Prepare:

Select a bill that has been proposed (not one that has been enacted) using the congressional websites provided in the Learning Resources.

Part 1: Legislation Comparison Grid

Based on the health-related bill (proposed, not enacted) you selected, complete the Legislation Comparison Grid Template. Be sure to address the following:

Determine the legislative intent of the bill you have reviewed.
Identify the proponents/opponents of the bill.
Identify the target populations addressed by the bill.
Where in the process is the bill currently? Is it in hearings or committees?

Based on the health-related bill you selected, develop a 1-page Legislation Testimony/Advocacy Statement that addresses the following:

Advocate a position for the bill you selected and write testimony in support of your position.

Stategic leadership APA style

Strategic leadership is not a term that everyone understands.  In this exercise, you are required to discover, document, and compare and contrast three (3) definitions of strategic leadership from three (3) unique scholarly sources.  Using the online Jerry Falwell Library (JFL), draw one definition each from a source found in the following databases:  Business Source Complete, ERIC, and a database of your choosing (not connected to the other two).  Limit your search to the last five (5) years and select only from sources that are full-text PDF.

Write a 900 word double-spaced paper in APA format that evaluates the definitions found in these articles.  Where are they similar?  Where do they differ?  Would you select one as more correct than the others or would you draw pieces from two or more of them to write your own definition?  How would you explain your chosen definition to others?  How would you apply this definition in a work setting?

As part of this project, prepare an annotated bibliography.  The bibliography will be structured as follows: APA formatted reference (minimum 250 words per reference) followed by summary of key points, evaluation of the quality of the publication, evaluation of the quality of the author(s), where this fits into the assignment, and the library database in which you found the article.  A traditional APA reference page and the annotated bibliography will be turned in with the associated paper.

The 17 slide Power Point presentation will consider the different leadership strategies that will be essential in facilitating changes in the organization.  The presentation will focus on three key areas as the basis for the need for change in the organizations Technology, Innovation and Communication. Please be specific.

The presentation will evaluate the different approaches that can be used towards establishing these changes and also evaluating how these changes will impact the performance of the given organization. The aim of the presentation will be to highlight the changes, reasons for these changes and the impact of the changes on the institution.

Integration of Faith and Learning

The concept of motivation is integrated throughout studies on management and leadership, but it becomes more complex when motivating a team comprised of multiple personalities, backgrounds and motivations.  This module will explore the various considerations that should be made for motivating teams as well as effective strategies for motivation.  A component of this will include a closer look at approaches to leadership with a specific focus on the serving leader as a motivator.

This paper will delve into the significance of empowering teams. Students will explore the advantages and challenges of this process as well as effective strategies for empowering high-performing teams.  This will include a closer look at approaches to leadership as it relates to this empowerment process.  The most effective leaders are able to embrace this as a slow and careful process of allowing team members to develop and become more empowered.  This module will conclude with an exploration of strategies for sustaining the high-performing team.
