Resolving conflicts in the workplace

Read the following scenario:

Emma and Isabella attend the front office at an urgent care facility. They have worked together for over 5 years and enjoy collaborating on projects. As their manager, you have asked them to work together to create a team training on effective communication in the workplace.

Emma feels that it is important to provide hands-on learning (e.g., role play) while Isabella feels that a lecture is the most appropriate format for this team. Emma defends her point by saying that her sister has been a teacher for 10 years, and she has proven that hands-on learning increases the engagement and likelihood of remembering the training material.

Isabella feels that Emma does not account for her 10 years of experience in the medical office and voices her disgust with Emma and her lack of appreciation for her experience. Isabella storms off and leaves Emma to finish the work.

Emma approaches the manager and complains that she has been left to complete the training because Isabella refuses to talk or work with her.

Write a 800-word paper that discusses how you would handle the situation. Complete the following in your paper:
Describe the type of conflict illustrated in the scenario.
Identify the strategies the manager could use to resolve the conflict between Emma and Isabella to create a supportive climate again.
Explain how the defensive climate created by the conflict will affect the workplace relationship between Emma and Isabella.
Discuss the impact it could have on the other clinic staff and the consumers who use the clinic.

Decision Making

Scenario

Scenario :
You are in charge of a medium-sized hospital. At 2:00 this morning, an 8.2 earthquake struck the city in which your hospital is located.

Throughout the day the hospital experienced a number of successive structural failures that have led to fires, exposed electrical wiring, and other imminent dangers. After several hours of trying to do the best you can for your patients in the deteriorating conditions, it is clear that you will soon need to evacuate. While prioritizing the transfer of patients to other less affected health facilities, you are informed that the roads leading to the hospital have been severely damaged, making it very difficult for ambulances to reach you.

Many of the patients can move under their own power, but quite a few of them cannot be moved in conventional vehicles and must be transported by ambulance. You must decide how much longer you will wait and continue to put yourself and the other doctors and nurses at risk before you get yourselves to safety. Leaving before the ambulances arrive will likely remove any chance of survival for your immobilized patients.

As you realize this, a maintenance worker runs up and informs you that the structural damage is worsening. Although your staff are extremely conscientious about their responsibility, you believe that they would be divided on the decision of leaving or staying.

During rounds Charles encounters a rare condition he has never personally seen, and only vaguely remembers hearing about in nursing school. He takes a few moments to prepare himself by searching the Internet. That evening, he researches even further to treat, administer, and assess the patient safely. He searches clinical databases online and his own school textbooks. Most of the information seems consistent, yet some factors vary. Charles wants to provide the highest quality in patient safety.

    1. What should Charles do when he encounters information in two sources that is directly
contradictory? Which resources are the most trusted? Which resources are the most
accurate? What criteria should Charles use to identify credible resources to enhance his

3c. Choose a clinical topic and design a search strategy for searching an online database
such as CINAHL or MEDLINE. Reflect on your search strategy, for example, what search

ULRICH  https://youtu.be/xopVlmEkoFo
WELCH  https://youtu.be/rByDmC0SqtM

Review the videos by Leroux, Ulrich and Welch in this Unit.  Notice the similarities or differences in how they view the function of Human Resource Management.  Comment on that in your discussion board as you look at the evolution of the field of HR.

Using academic data,  research the evolution of the 1950s Personnel Department to the current HRM Department and expand on the importance of the HRM department in the 21st century.  In your opinion, what forces influenced the change we have seen?

Describe your experiences with your company’s HRM department? Does your HRM Department respond quickly to queries, is visible in the company and engages with employees?  If you havent had any HRM experience, explain what a typical HRM Department should do.

Please cite your academic source(s) by using the APA format with in-text citations (whenever you paraphrase information from a source) and with APA references.  Make sure your research is from valid academic sources.
