CM220 Unit 8 Discussion Board

This Discussion gives you an opportunity to post a draft of your introduction and the first body paragraph of your persuasive essay so that you can receive feedback on their effectiveness from your peers and the instructor. You may find it helpful to post your paragraphs early in the unit so that you have time to revise them for the units Assignment based on the feedback you receive and the insights you find from the Reading and Learning Activities.

Include all of the following in your Discussion post:

A draft of your introduction for your persuasive essay using one of the techniques described in Crafting Effective Introductions and Conclusions
A thesis statement as the last sentence of your introduction.
A draft of the first body paragraph for your argument.
Wrap up with an open-ended question about something you need help with, specific feedback you would like to receive, or introductions strategies.
For peer feedback this week, you will need to respond substantively to at least two peers initial Discussion posts and show active engagement in the discussion as described in the grading rubric. Challenge yourself to go beyond grammar and mechanics corrections and instead identify which introduction strategy your classmates used. Offer at least one piece of constructive feedback that can help your classmate revamp their introduction for the essay and consider whether a different introduction strategy may be more effective. Alternatively, provide feedback on the body paragraph and/or the transition between the body paragraph and introduction.

When responding to a peer, exercise tact and be specific in what you say. Take your time and develop your thoughts so that you can help out a fellow writer. Please do not focus on or mark GUM (grammar, usage, and mechanics) issues.
Be sure to address any lingering questions you have about your classmates argument for change.
All Discussion posts and responses to peers should be written in complete sentences using Standard English. Before posting, proofread for grammar, spelling, and word-choice issues. Be sure to respond fully to every aspect of the Discussion.

When you refer to concepts from the units Reading, be sure to use a signal phrase like According to . . .[name of reading]. If you are directly quoting the Reading or another source, be sure to use quotation marks and cite the source using proper APA in-text citations and full references. See the Purdue Global Writing Center Using Sources for resources on APA citation formatting.

CM220 Unit 7 Discussion Board

Writers often face the challenge of too many ideas swirling around their heads when they sit down to draft an essay or another document. The swirling ideas can lead to writers block or a disorganized draft. This Discussion will help you bring order to an argument for change by using a graphic organizer or writing an outline. Your outline or graphic organizer should include at least four key points (not including the introduction and conclusion) that will help you to support your essays thesis statement.

Be sure to include your most recent thesis statement in the outline or organizer in addition to the four supporting points.

Begin by reviewing the Unit 8 Assignment instructions, and then respond to all of the following prompts:

Post your most recent thesis revision.
Share an outline or graphic organizer that captures and organizes at least four supporting ideas for your persuasive essay. Include at least one misconception or opposition point to your argument that you will need to rebut in the essay.
Use complete sentences for each of the main points and tell the class what evidence you can use to support that point.
Ask an open-ended question related to something you need help with for your argument or the ideas associated with drafting and organizing essays from the Unit 7 Reading.
For peer feedback this week, challenge yourself to identify gaps in the argument that may need to be filled or to offer suggestions about how to rework the organization to more effectively convey the issue or solution.

The academic essay Assignment in this unit will be a written, cohesive argument for the change in your community that you have been writing about throughout the course. The Assignment should take the form of a persuasive academic essay, in which you will provide reliable evidence from at least four sources to support the argument for change that you are advocating. You will also need to address counter-arguments or misconceptions about your topic within the essay, as the ability to do so is a key component of a strong argument. Essentially, the essay will reflect what you have learned about writing effectively, using research, and creating a logical argument to influence an audience.

Any topic (writer’s choice)

This course will involve learning various theoretical and practice models in Social Work practice with couples. Clinicians will oftentimes find themselves drawn to specific models, or possibly having adverse reactions to a particular model. It is important to evaluate and understand these reactions. Each unit of this course you will learn about various experiences in working with couples. Reporting on the various concepts and how you see this translating into your practice is very important in your identity development as a social worker. You may consider using the reflection assignments assigned throughout the semester to develop into a complete report of a modality of your choice. The report will be approximately 5-7 pages (a minimum of full 5 pages, maximum of 7 pages).

The report should highlight:

Review of key concepts, principles, and techniques covered in the Handbook. The summary content of the Gurman chapters should be factual, practical information that you can utilize as quick references in your future as a practitioner.
Personal commentaries and reactions to the specific cases presented in Case Studies books. These commentaries or reactions should highlight how you would see yourself using these techniques or modalities in practice.
Include and synthesize information from at least one empirical article that provide evidence and identify a means to work with this issue in a clinical manner. Please work to choose an article within the past 10-15 years (e.g. 2005-2020).
Identify at least one relevant resource or tool to you would use with this modality (e.g. client handout or homework, training manual, etc.). Include your rationale as to how you would see yourself using this in clinical practice.

Asthma and Stepwise Management

Asthma is a respiratory disorder that affects children and adults. Advanced practice nurses often provide treatment to patients with these disorders. Sometimes patients require immediate treatment, making it essential that you recognize and distinguish minor asthma symptoms from serious, life-threatening ones. Since symptoms and attacks are often induced by a trigger, advanced practice nurses must also help patients identify their triggers and recommend appropriate management options. Like many other disorders, there are various approaches to treating and managing care for asthmatic patients depending on individual patient factors.
One method that supports the clinical decision making of drug therapy plans for asthmatic patients is the stepwise approach, which you explore in this Assignment.

To Prepare
Reflect on drugs used to treat asthmatic patients, including long-term control and quick relief treatment options for patients. Think about the impact these drugs might have on patients, including adults and children.
Consider how you might apply the stepwise approach to address the health needs of a patient in your practice.
Reflect on how stepwise management assists health care providers and patients in gaining and maintaining control of the disease.

Create a  6-slide PowerPoint presentation that can be used in a staff development meeting on presenting different approaches for implementing the stepwise approach for asthma treatment. Be sure to address the following:

Describe long-term control and quick relief treatment options for the asthma patient from your practice as well as the impact these drugs might have on your patient.
Explain the stepwise approach to asthma treatment and management for your patient.
Explain how stepwise management assists health care providers and patients in gaining and maintaining control of the disease. Be specific.

Training Plan

Using the ADDIE model, design a training plan based on the findings and training outcomes revealed in your TNA. The training plan should include the following, at a minimum:

Analysis

The Analysis section is a summary of your TNA ( assignments 1 and 2).

Include a paragraph describing the organization and training issue.

Discuss organizational and training goals and objectives, the target group, and the KSAs that should be expected of learners, which the training will address.

Design

Determine program format, length of training, and method of delivery.

What will be the costs, and what resources will be needed from the organization? A training plan budget is important because an organization needs to anticipate, plan and pay for the training costs. In the section, you will develop a spending plan that breaks down the costs of your proposed training plan. Consider the following cost categories for your budget table and report: Direct Costs, Indirect Costs, Preparation Costs, Developmental Costs, Participant compensation, Evaluation costs, Total Training Costs. Your budget will have two components, a formal report and a budget table.

Prepare a table with a proposal for your training.

Prepare a written budget report  Describe in detail each the costs associated for your organization training needs as it applies to your training plan. Explain all of the costs included in your budget table.

Development

Describe what will be included in the program materials and activities. Consider communication tools, modules, learning aids, and assessment/evaluation tools.

Implementation

Give specifics on how you will implement and deliver training. Include any “train-the-trainer” pilots and plans for training.

Evaluation

In this section, you will develop a post-training evaluation plan. Evaluation is necessary for determining the overall effectiveness of a training program. Your evaluation plan should aim to measure learner performance. Evaluation will describe the success of the training program and lead to a plan for continuous improvement. You plan should include both a written report and the evaluation tool you would use for assessment.

Prepare an evaluation report Describe in detail how you will evaluate this training in terms of effectiveness. Explain how training will be assessed and evaluated. Describe the purpose of the evaluation tool. Address how overall training will be evaluated. List short- and long-term methods that ensure your training plan has translated into desired performance. Explain how it will bridge the organizational gaps identified in the TNA.

Include at least one evaluation tool together with your written evaluation plan. The tool should look professional and ready for your intended audience to complete.

Make sure you have an introduction and summary to your report.

Case Study Analysis

Read the following case and respond to the questions.

You work on a team with a number of talented individuals from different departments in your organization. You are the team leader, and director of your department. You have a couple people on the team that you really appreciate because they do such a good job handling the issues that arise in their area, but you have noticed that one of those employees, Lindsey Tomas, has been having issues lately. While she still gets the job done, she does not have the same passion and drive that she did, nor the dedication to quality, or the willingness to speak up and offer new ideas. Instead she does what tasks she is given, offers little input, and just comes in with a dazed look on her face. After a month you confront her on what is going on with her.

Lindsey tells you that her boss has given her a number (think 5 or 6) of high profile and important tasks that she is to lead in her department in addition to the team on which you and she currently serve and her normal workload. From what she has told you, her workload exceeds that of what you give your assistant director, who regularly puts in 60 hour weeks. She also confesses that she is having issues with keeping up with her house and kids, as she regularly takes work home to get tasks done and has to forgo time with the kids or sleep (often both). You ask if her if her director has given her a pay raise or anything to help with the extra work she is doing. Lindsey says no as her boss said that his boss says the department does not have the budget to give any incentives like that and there are no current openings for her to be promoted into. Her boss has promised that when the next position opens up in a couple years he will advance her to an assistant director.

Lindsey confides in you that she is trying her best, but she is becoming apathetic from all that she has to do. Her tasks have to get done, but they don’t have to all be done to the utmost standard and so she is not putting the same effort into her tasks as she would have months ago.

You feel like the organization is suffering from the loss of Lindsey’s extra contributions and overall high level of performance. At the next quarterly meeting you speak with Lindsey’s director about her and why he has tasked her with so many projects. He responds that she is an excellent worker that he can trust to get the job done, and as he does not currently have many of those employees in his department he feels it is better to give such important tasks to those that will do the best job. Further, he thinks she has the potential to advance to an assistant director or beyond, and sees this as good training for her.

Questions

1. What can you say about the relationship between Lindsey and her director? Do you think he is a good manager/leader?

2. What is happening to Lindsey’s attitude? Using the various theoretical constructs we have read, explain what Lindsey is feeling, how that is currently contributing to her performance, and to what outcomes it could possibly lead to over time. Justify your explanation.

3. Now imagine that you were Lindsey’s boss and someone just came up and explained to you how your actions are affecting Lindsey and what they might lead to in the future. What do you do to fix the situation?
