U.S. Marine leaders have responsibilities in and on Social Media

1.      As a group in class, you will have just spent time organizing ideas and preparing for a debate.  The next step in the writing process is to take this organized outline of ideas, and write it in draft form.

2.      Choose your topic and write a 3-4 page paper of your argument for or against it.  You must choose to agree or disagree with the prompt.  You may use any or all of the information your group, or any other group, created for the debate, or you may go in a new direction.  You need to present a thesis that states what you will prove and why.  YOU MAY CHOOSE WHICH SIDE OF THE DEBATE TO PRESENT FOR THE PAPER. You do not have to use the side you used in class, but you will only present one side of the topic.

3.      Your paper should include the basic elements of an academic paper (introduction, body, and conclusion) and use proper sentence structure, punctuation, and grammar.  It should be at least 3-4 pages typed, double spaced.  Do not use headings.

How Percussion was introduced into church music

Term Paper: A paper at least eight pages in length on a musical work or topic pertaining to the time periods or cultures studied in this semester. You may select a work from the repertoire list or elsewhere as your topic, or you may write on a broader historical topic. Your topic must receive approval by the professor according to the timeline indicated below.

Your paper must present a clear thesis and a discussion of your chosen topic, backing up your statements with your research.

Term Paper Timeline
The topic for your paper must have been approved by the professor on or before Friday, September 25.
A bibliography for your paper is due on or before Friday, October 23.
A detailed outline or a draft of Paper 2 is due on or before Friday, November 6. (Subject headings do not constitute a detailed outline. Outlines must contain substantive information.)
The completed paper is due on or before Friday, December 4.

Format of the Papers
Please note that the style for these papers is not MLA style, but the Chicago Manual of Style. Guidelines for this reference style have been uploaded to Blackboard. The GVSU Library website provides links to several citation websites. In addition, please note that:

1.    Each paper must be double-spaced and typed. The font must be no larger than 12-point font. No hand-written papers will be accepted.

2.    Illustrations and musical examples may be included in the paper, but only if they support points made in the text. Illustrations may not take the place of text.

3.    The paper must be presented in a folder, report cover, or with the pages neatly stapled together.

4.    Pages must be numbered.

5.    At least five sources must be listed in a bibliography to be included at the end of the paper.  As is the case with printed sources, any websites consulted must be reputable sources. You may not count the class textbook or anthology among your minimum five sources.

All sources must be properly referenced in a footnote.[1]
Any form of plagiarism will result in an automatic failing grade for the paper and possibly for the course.

If you could send me a detailed outline on or before November 5th, I would be extremely grateful!

I have a bibliography attached. As long as you use one of them as a source, that would be fine. The other 4+ can be replaced.

Considering Canada and the US from the early 19th century until about 1920, in what ways did people employ their ideas about progress and development to shape their relationships with the environment? How so, and why? What were the benefits and costs of this phenomenon?
discuss a number of specific case studies or historical examples that illustrate different ways that people used ideas about progress and development to interact with the environment or experienced the environment differently because of their specific cultures or politics. Keep in mind that urban spaces (cities) are part of the environment. Keep in mind that you should employ historical examples that show different groups and how they uniquely defined these terms. In marshalling evidence, you should include examples from all three assigned books
Down to Earth: Nature’s Role in American History, 4th ed.Ted Steinberg
Canadians and the Natural Environment to the Twenty-First Century Neil Forkey
As Long as the Grass Grows: The Indigenous Fight for Environmental Justice, from Colonization to Standing Rock.Dina Gilio-Whitaker
Please indicate the source of important ideas and historical information in your essays by providing either footnotes or endnotes according to the Chicago Manual of Style. No parenthetical citations please

Historical

Write on a historical topic of interest to you after Instructor approval.

What were the factors that led to the Progressive Era. What was the role of the Muckrakers? (For this you may wish to refer to some of their writings.) What were some of the results achieved by the Progressives?
What led to the Great Depression? What policies of President Hoovers administration made the Depression worse? What was the New Deal?
What was the Cold War? How did the Cold War begin? Discuss the Cuban Missile Crisis in terms of its cause and American policy during the crisis.

The above are General Subject Areas and are too broad to research in their entirety. Write on a single topic not all of those within the subject area. If you are interested in writing on another topic within the time range of those of Paper 2 discuss it with me first. The assignment length is 1,500 words.

Use a minimum of 3 sources and a maximum of 5. Try to use Journal articles but books are also acceptable. All sources should be written by historians and come from the Palm Beach State Library or the Databases it supports. ( Journals of History can be found in JSTOR) If you are having difficulty getting started check with a Research Librarian at the Library or use Ask a Librarian on the Library web site.

Include a word count and a bibliography. Use Chicago Book of Style for citations and Bibliography. The Noodle Tool supports this style so try it. For Quick reference look at Turabian or A Pocket Guide to Writing in History by Mary Lynn Rampolla.

These are research papers and must be based on books and other peer reviewed materials (Journal Articles and other similar sources). Examples of unaccepted sources include: Encyclopedia Entries, Wikipedia, the textbook, any databases ending in .com ( Including Facts on File, Google, Yahoo, and material from other similar sites), and Films (Unless pre-approved). If you are unsure of a source, see me.

Midterm Assignment

Because the Midterm is an assessment of the course objectives for the first four weeks, you may only use the required readings and all in Lessons (Lectures), including the linked resources there.  No additional texts are permitted. There will be point reductions if you ignore this request. It means that you should carefully comb through the readings for the first four weeks to find facts that pertain to these questions. I am opening the Midterm earlier so that you can start reading and working on it.  Please be sure to answer all three questions.

The required length is 4 double-spaced pages in 12 pt. font, not including the References. Make sure to use the Turabian Reference Style with in-text citations and include a Reference List at the end of your essay. Please write complete sentences and pay attention to your grammar and sentence structure.

Submit your finished essay as a word document in the Assignment window under the Midterm folder. Label it yourlastnameMidterm.doc or yourlastnameMidterm.docx.  Answer all three questions!

Choose a terrorist group (other than al Qaeda and ISIL) from the course readings (Weeks 1-4), and describe it. Who are its key personnel? Why is this organization important?
In an assigned chapter, Hoffman asks an intriguing question: “Why with the exception of September 11, do terrorists generally seem to lack the rich imaginations of Hollywood movie producers, thriller writers, and others?” How would you answer it?
In an assigned chapter, Hoffman claims that terrorists don’t take civilians as hostages. What examples that break these rules does he list?

3. In chapter 2, Murray writes, If humility be the first, the all-including grace of the life of Jesus, if humility be the secret of His atonement, then the health and strength of our spiritual life will entirely depend upon our putting this grace first too, and making humility the chief thing we admire in him, the chief thing we ask of him, the one thing for which we sacrifice all else.
4. Do you agree or disagree with this statement and how is his argument here developed through the rest of the book?
5. Whether you agree or not with his argument, where in Scripture could someone argue that humility be the first, the all-including grace of the life of Jesus?

Any topic (writer’s choice)

Historians are always trying to understand the causes and consequences. Causes tell us how things happened (or changed) and consequences indicate the size and scope of the change. One would expect the biggest changes to have the biggest consequences. What would you say were the three most important changes that occurred from 8000 BCE to 1450 CE? Why were they the most important changes? What were their consequences or effects (up to 1450 CE)? What were their origins or causes?

Can the COVID-19 pandemic lead to deglobalization?

Topic: Can the COVID-19 pandemic lead to deglobalization?

**NOTE you just have to write a chapter and analyse from the perspective of POLITICS

In this class, most of us were born or grown up in the era of globalization. The COVID-19 pandemic, however, severely reduced worldwide economic growth, population mobility, trade, travel, communication, to name a few. The pandemic is resetting the debate on globalization. Has the pandemic accelerated deglobalization? Or has it strengthened the globalization on the contrary? How will globalization look after the pandemic? Where do we go from here?
