The plague

We said that the absurd represents for Camus the situation of human beings- namely that even there there is no ultimate meaning, human beings continue to look for meaning.

In the Plague, the infection of the town of Oran has been interpreted to mean different things, most obviously Nazism/fascism. However, reading more broadly, and seeing the plague in the novel as representing the condition of the absurd, answer the following question:

How do various characters in the Plague deal with the situation? What does this tell us about Camus’ ideas about dealing with the absurd?

Please do the following in your essay :

1) Demonstrate that you’ve read the book with frequent references to the text

2) Discuss at least three main characters minimum, although you including more is good.

3) You must discuss the character of Dr. Rieux. Also, answer the following question regarding Dr. Rieux: Is Dr. Rieux just under Plato’s definition of social and individual justice?

READ THE BOOK. Do not rely on web summaries, etc.

the sun never sets: incorporation of American culture into the Indian identity

To start with, I aim to begin my essay with a detailed introduction on Americanisation, its origin, how and where it started and what enabled it to happen; basically, detail about the information age then talk about the opening up of markets in 1991.then i need details on why the American culture was appealing to Indians. then some points on how everything led to the forming of a new India where two cultures were mixed and practiced. This was because old India didnt completely submit to the whole concept of Americanisation. then some details on Why Americanisation was so profound in India more than other places.Next big question that the essay will deal with is why didnt Indians let their culture get swallowed. This was mainly due to the conservatives rollbacks. How they didnt let it happen and wanted to still preserve some of their oldest, purest form of cultural heritage.. Finally, towards the conclusion, the essay should talk about the future of India. How do we fit into an American centric world? How long will the American centric world last and how would India constantly deal with the shift from the American centric. Thereby concluding the paper with how India has taken the American identity to become a new and developed country and has not been completely taken over by it.

Musical Magic: Analysis of the music in the film of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone

student will form a hypothesis about the score of a mainstream hollywood-style film, which they will then argue, in a critical paper using the support from their own musical analysis, as well as materials from film and soundtrack literature. the paper should be the best expression of your critical argument in considered and polished prose, with correct chicago style formatting and citations.

Thesis: In this paper, I will discuss through the film Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone from the writer J. K. Rowlings novel include descriptions of musical events, and texts for fictional songs that help contextualize her original concepts for music in Harry Potter. Scores and recordings are used to analyze patterns of connection between the composers scores and the directors film (with consideration of Rowlings original narrative). I will also outline three particularly useful ways that music provides narrative elements that other theatrical media cannot supply. First, music can expand the physical space beyond the boundaries of what is seen. This is experienced in several scenes in the Harry Potter films when hearing precedes seeing, and when sounds are heard from off screen. Second, music can emphasize movement through synchronization. This strategy is often used in the Harry Potter films to punctuate humorous actions. Third, music can represent the characters or the internal thoughts of characters/ symbolic representation of folkloric and narrative musical events. Music is useful in this endeavor when mournful sounding melodies alert viewers that Harry is remembering his late parents, and when more cheerful-sounding music supports Harrys new friendships. Additionally, analyze on the music Hedwigs theme how John William made Harry Potter musical soundtracks use of leitmotif, use of varying instrumental textures, diatonic/functional tonality, strong lyrical melodies, clear and interesting rhythms, tasteful harmonic modulation, and charming styles to reach from the heart of his composition to his audience.

Please include footnotes and one page bibliography.

Public policy

This is the topic:
Michelle Rhee and the Washington, D.C., Public Schools. Purchase from Kennedy School. Case 1957.0.
Assume you are a top advisor to Kaya Henderson, who has just replaced Michelle Rhee as Chancellor of the Washington, DC, Public Schools (DCPS) in 2010 (after the end of the case). The new Chancellor has asked you for a memo that assesses and proposes improvements in Rhees approach to managing and motivating the principals and teachers of DCPS.

The required reading mentioned above (1957.0) and an example student memo are attached. Please follow the format of the example memo. The writer’s perspective should be an advisor. All the information needed should be in the reading. If the writer cites from anywhere else, please footnote it. In the background part, the writer should provide only 3-4 options, and expand them. Please provide specificity for the options, and address how they will be implemented. The writer’s final recommendation also should be strong – including process and reinforce why the writer recommends that course of action. Thank you!

Interior Furnishing and Decoration Analysis

Select an interior created or significantly altered after 1800 and closely associated with a major movement, group, or set of ideas in the decorative arts and design(Arts & Crafts, Vienna Secession, Society of Artist-Decorators, Futurism, Constructivism, Postmodernism, Sustainability,Universal/Inclusive Design, etc.)

Research and write an approximately 1500 word formal academic paper driven by a thesis and argument that analyzes the movement, group, or set of ideas and places your interior within the context of the major ideas of your group. How does this interior express the ideas of the movement or group

You may want to consider some of the following questions when developing your thesis and argument, with an emphasis on how your interior reflects or exemplifies the ideas, goals, and/or approaches of your movement:
How is the interior space organized? How is the room laid out? How are the functions of the space organized? Would this space be part of a larger suite of rooms or is it more self-contained?
What is the relationship between architecture and interior? How do the elements of the interior architectural frame (i.e. floors, windows, walls, ceilings, interior architectural details, etc.) relate to the furniture and furnishings? Is there a relationship between interior and exterior architecture? Interior and exterior space?
How was the space designed and executed? Who would have been responsible for the aesthetic conception of the space? What were they trying to achieve/what principles guided them? Who would have executed the different components of the interior?
How are form and ornament used, including iconography or symbolism, sources, and cultural meanings?

Your paper must include at least one clear image of your interior space with a caption indicating the name or title of your interior (e.g. living room, Falling water), responsible parties (i.e. architect/designer etc.) and date.
All papers must include proper footnotes and bibliography in appropriate Chicago/Humanities format

Climate Change

Climate change is not going to kill us all, but it will effect the world as we know it, since these are not the conditions to which our society adapted.

We can fix it though, and there are plenty of ways to do so. A lot of them were addressed in Chapter 15.

So, your paper. I want you to write a 2000 word (4 pages) paper on Climate Change Mitigation. How do we halt climate change, and how can we potentially reverse it. You can look at the Stabilization Wedges on slide 57 in Chapter 15 as a starting point. It doesn’t need to be a nuts and bolts kind of paper, just enough that I know you understand it in broad strokes.  You need to have at least four (4) sources. You cannot use Wikipedia as the source, but you can start your research there.  If you are going for the extra credit, you need another source per 1000 words, so that’s a minimum of 6 sources if you are going for the whole enchilada.
You need to do citations in this format:

Public Policy

This is the instruction:” For this assignment, you will write an op-ed on any social policy issue you would like (it is strongly suggested, but not required, that this be on the same subject as your final project). The piece should be no longer than 750 words and written for a general audience.”

I haven’t chosen any topic, feel free to choose your topic but please write about US public policy. Please do not write more than 750 words and make citations if there’s any. Thank you very much.

This is the course’s description, “Social policy is about identifying social problems and understanding the causes of those problems. More specifically, social policy analyzes the decisions that government makes, looking at who gets what and why. How do we create a more fair and inclusive society? What is the role of social services in improving well-being? How do we protect the most vulnerable among us?

In the first week, we will think about social policy broadly (aka the welfare state). Over the following four weeks, we will focus specifically on different topics within child and family policychildcare, pre-kindergarten, poverty alleviation for families, and the afterschool hours. We will be aided by Rhode Island experts representing four major actors when it comes to social policy: government bureaucrats, appointees/staff of the executive branch officials, nonprofits, and elected members of the legislative branch. In the final week, we will think about how these same social problems and issues are handled internationally.”

El Nino Country Thats Affected

Introduction

Visit your favorite climate portal and find, assess, and comment on a project or report related to the effects of El Nino on a particular sector (such as agriculture, utilities, human health, etc.,) due, in part, to anthropogenic climate change. El Nino (and its counterpart La Nina), are natural phenomena that affect seasonal weather and long-term climate patterns around the world. You’ll likely need to explore the basics of El Nino before reviewing your article (See: https://www.climate.gov/enso). You’ll come across many reports attributing serious impacts to El Nino; and many will go a step further by tying events to climate change. But do these reports present the science and impacts effectively and truthfully? As you explore how organizations treat El Nino, think about some of the real-world economic impacts and reasonable options to respond to them.

There are three objectives for this assignment: 1) discover climate portals that publish on advanced climate-services related topics; 2) evaluate and critique your project/report of choice in light of the knowledge gained from the materials assigned for this module; and 3) comment on the relationship between El Nino and climate impacts (if any). You can pick virtually any report as long as its author/s offers ample and credible support for their findings.

The report must be fairly recent (at the most, 12 months old).

A brief description of the project or report you are introducing;

Your assessment of the credibility/veracity of the report (not all organizations are alike!);
Your assessment of the substantive points made in by the author/s; and

A brief account of the nexus between El Nino and impacts on a given critical sector. Does the project or report acknowledge uncertainties?

Does it explore the science in an understandable way? If not, what do you think are the reasons for these omissions?

Must follow instructions.  Please utilize 3 questions to frame paper
Must Identify a Country directly impacted by El Nino

4 scholarly sources in addition to climate portal

You can choose from any idea or policy that we have addressed this semester (a list of ideas is provided below), or you can develop your own idea for an intervention. Imagine you are creating a policy platform for the next President of the United States what would you want them to focus federal interventions on?

There’s a structure, format requirement and Examples of CD Policies or Programs in the assignment pdf.  Need strictly follow the guidelines in the pdf.
